10 Adorable Star Wars Characters Who Give Baby Yoda Competition

10 Adorable Star Wars Characters Who Give Baby Yoda Competition

Although Grogu is still widely considered the cutest Star Wars character, these 10 characters from Star Wars' movies and TV shows give even 'Baby Yoda' a run for his money. It wasn't until season 2 of The Mandalorian that Grogu's true name was revealed, when Ahsoka Tano was able to communicate with him in a way Din Djarin could not. Until that point, Grogu had simply been called 'The Child' in The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda by the fanbase.

Even without a formal name, Grogu captured audiences' hearts with his large eyes and ears and his baby-like mannerisms (although he is actually 50 years old; being Yoda's species, he ages differently than a human). Grogu still seems to hold the crown of cutest Star Wars character, but there are numerous adorable creatures, such as Ewoks and Porgs, in the franchise. Outside of entire species in Star Wars, these 10 characters from across the Star Wars timeline are some of the biggest competition for Baby Yoda, in no particular order.

BB-8

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Close

BB-8 may not be cute and cuddly in the way that some other Star Wars characters are, Grogu included, but he is nevertheless one of the franchise's most adorable characters. Like many droids, such as the iconic R2-D2, BB-8 has a shocking amount of personality and expressiveness. This is part of what makes him such a precious Star Wars character. He has an almost childlike wonder about him at times, even as he has his sassy moments, just as R2-D2 does.

BB-8's characterization is also part of what necessitates his inclusion on this list. Beyond just looking adorable—although his design is also quite unique and part of what makes him one of the cuter Star Wars characters—BB-8 is incredibly loyal. He first shows this loyalty to Poe Dameron, but that ultimately transfers to and is shared by Rey as well, after she saves him in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Nix

First Appeared In: Star Wars Outlaws

Close

Although Nix may have a slightly spider-like appearance because of his legs, he is still one of the cutest characters in Star Wars. Nix is a merqaal and was introduced in the video game Star Wars Outlaws. In the game, he belonged to Kay Vess, a thief living during the Imperial Era.

Although Nix may have a slightly spider-like appearance because of his legs, he is still one of the cutest characters in Star Wars.

Unlike BB-8, Nix is the type of fluffy small character that would typically be associated with an adorable creature, and Nix certainly fits the bill. Like BB-8, however, Nix's place on this list goes beyond just his appearance. Yes, Nix is cute, but he was also fiercely loyal and protected Kay when she needed it. In fact, his disposition could change quite quickly when she was in trouble and needed his help. This, in addition to Nix's fluffiness and large eyes, make him one of the most adorable characters.

Murley

First Appeared In: Ahsoka

Close

Although loth-cats were not new in Ahsoka, as they had also been seen in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine Wren's loth-cat in Ahsoka, Murley, is one of the most adorable characters in all of Star Wars. Loth-cats are cute regardless, but getting to see one so up close and personal in live-action, especially interacting with Sabine, made it all the better. Murley's disposition, which seemed to be sweet and playful, also made him all the more charming.

This loth-cat, native to Lothal (Ezra's homeworld), was another way for Sabine to feel close to Ezra, even long after he had gone missing.

There was also a deeper meaning to Murley that earns him a spot on this list. It was clear, based on Sabine keeping and continuing to listen to his last message, that she never truly let go of Ezra Bridger and thought of him often—perhaps every day. This loth-cat, native to Lothal (Ezra's homeworld), was another way for Sabine to feel close to Ezra, even long after he had gone missing. With Ahsoka season 2 coming, but Sabine trapped on Peridea, it will be interesting to see if Murley makes an appearance.

Wim

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Close

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Star Wars' newest TV show, has proven to be absolutely brilliant, even with just three episodes released so far. The cast of Skeleton Crew primarily comprises children, and they all seem perfectly suited to their characters. In the first two episodes of Skeleton Crew, one of these children, Wim, seemed to be the protagonist, as most events were seen through his eyes. While that shifted slightly in episode 3, Wim is nevertheless a key character, and he has proven to be a great addition to Star Wars already.

One of the most adorable moments in all of Skeleton Crew thus far occurred in episode 1, when Wim and his best friend, Neel, pulled out toy lightsaber hilts and pretended to have a lightsaber battle. This was an incredible moment in Star Wars and is perhaps the closest the franchise has come to 'real life' in its nearly 50 years. Wim has also proven to be full of hope and ideals about the Jedi and adventure, which makes him all the more endearing.

KB

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Close

KB is yet another of the new kids introduced in Skeleton Crew, and like Wim, she has already been shown to be a great character. KB seems to be the sharpest of the group thus far, so while she is a bit quieter than the rest, this is likely because she is always in the background, thinking. She is also quick to realize that Jude Law's mysterious character Jod Na Nawood, aka Crimson Jack, likely isn't who he says he is—specifically, he probably isn't a Jedi.

Little is known about KB at this point, although her parents did voice concerns about her being lost because of an unknown medical condition. Whether that relates to the headpiece she wears isn't quite clear. More is undoubtedly to come for this character and for the rest of the Skeleton Crew kids, as 5 episodes remain.

Fern

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Close

Fern is another of the four main Skeleton Crew kids, and while Wim seemed to be the protagonist and KB seems to be the brains, Fern has established herself as a clear leader in the group. This became most clear when she tricked the pirate droid, SM-33, into believing she was the new captain. In fact, Fern is an apparent Leia replacement in Star Wars, both because of her leadership and because of her spunky, at times sarcastic attitude.

That aspect of her personality doesn't mean Fern doesn't act like a kid though. On the contrary, Fern, like the rest of the Skeleton Crew kids, acts more like a kid than most other children have in Star Wars. In what was arguably the cutest Skeleton Crew moment with Fern thus far, in episode 3, Fern insisted that she wasn't even tired when Jod Na Nawood told her to go to sleep, and in the next scene, she was shown completely asleep—another example of Skeleton Crew feeling more like real life.

Young Anakin

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Close

Star Wars shocked everyone when Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace introduced prequel trilogy era Anakin Skywalker not as an already evil young man or perhaps even a teenager but instead as an innocent young boy. While that decision became one of the major complaints about the prequel trilogy and remains controversial in the franchise, young Anakin Skywalker is adorable. Many of Anakin's lines from The Phantom Menace have been and continue to be mocked, but they reflect the child he truly was.

Beyond just being a child, though, young Anakin was a particularly sweet character who very clearly wanted to help those around him, be it his mother or strangers he had only just met. In the end, that only made Anakin's fall all the more painful, as audiences got to see how innocently he had begun. Nevertheless, this young version of Anakin Skywalker is one of Star Wars' most adorable characters, even with his eventual turn to Darth Vader.

Young Luke

First Appeared In: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Close

Following in his father's footsteps, young Luke Skywalker from Obi-Wan Kenobi is also one of Star Wars' most adorable characters. Obi-Wan Kenobi was a surprise, but a delightful one, as it had seemed as though Star Wars had closed the book on this period in the Star Wars timeline. Instead, Obi-Wan Kenobi revealed what Obi-Wan's life on Tatooine looked like and got to bring 10-year-old Luke Skywalker to life for the first time.

Unsurprisingly, given who he grows into, young Luke Skywalker was shown to be kind, brave, and playful. In a moment that both showed his personality and foreshadowed A New Hope, Luke played atop the Lars' home in Obi-Wan Kenobi, pretending to be a pilot. Like many of the scenes in Skeleton Crew, this was a precious moment showing Luke acting like a true child. In the show's finale, however, Luke also proved his bravery, following Aunt Beru's instructions to run when Reva came seeking revenge on Anakin Skywalker.

Young Leia

First Appeared In: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Close

Like Luke, young Leia was introduced in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and she shockingly became the focus of the show, although her involvement had originally not been known. In the show, young Leia proved to easily be one of the most adorable characters in all of Star Wars. Leia was perfectly cast, mirroring Carrie Fisher's kindness while also capturing her wit and fierceness.

Leia was somehow perfectly cast, mirroring Carrie Fisher's kindness while also capturing her wit and fierceness.

What added to this was the relationship between Leia and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan Kenobi confirmed that Obi-Wan and Leia had gotten to know each other well before A New Hope, and their dynamic was truly precious to watch. Young Leia had strong similarities to both Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, which led to a number of very sweet (and funny) interactions between Leia and Obi-Wan in the show. However, Leia was also excellent on her own, consistently revealing her bravery, compassion, and sass throughout Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Neel

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Close

Finally, Skeleton Crew's Neel is absolutely one of the most adorable characters in Star Wars. Like all four of the show's kids, Neel behaves in ways that make him seem authentically like a child, including by engaging in a pretend lightsaber battle with Wim. Neel's unique appearance has also been a factor in this, as he looks almost like a small elephant, which many viewers have found quite cute.

Neel's personality also contributes to his inclusion on this list, though, as he has already shown that he is a good friend, a kind older sibling, and a person who wants to do the right thing. Surely, the last five episodes of Skeleton Crew will only reveal that much more about Neel's characterization, likely endearing audiences to him all the more. While no one in Star Wars may ever truly best Grogu as the franchise's cutest character, these 10 adorable characters do come close.
