2003 Biblical Comedy Starring Jim Carrey & Morgan Freeman Finds New Streaming Home Next Month

Though he has been known for some dramatic roles as well, Jim Carrey has been a notable comedy actor for a couple of decades at this point. These comedies include higher-profile works such as a The Truman Show along with goofier parts in films like Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This year, Carrey will play a goofy comedy role again in the soon-to-be-released Sonic the Hedgehog 3. This time around, Carrey will play both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik in the threequel.

Morgan Freeman's career is in some ways the foil to Carrey's. In an inversion of Carrey's patterns, Freeman's career has consisted mostly of dramas, with the occasional comedy thrown in. He has been nominated for multiple Oscars, winning Best Supporting Actor in 2005 for his performance in Million Dollar Baby. One of the actor's most distinctive qualities is his voice. Freeman's calming yet authoritative tone led him to play the God Vitruvius in The LEGO Movie, for example. Though very different actors, Freeman and Carrey starred in a movie together that is soon getting a new streaming home.

Bruce Almighty will soon be arriving on Netflix. Released over a decade before The LEGO Movie, Bruce Almighty was the first instance of Freeman playing God. Bruce Almighty's plot follows the story of a news reporter, Bruce Nolan, who is given the chance to temporarily play the role of God. Carrey plays the titular Bruce opposite Freeman's God, and the supporting cast includes Jennifer Aniston, Philip Baker Hall, Catherine Bell, Lisa Ann Walter, and Steve Carell. Bruce Almighty was followed up by the sequel film Evan Almighty four years later.

Evan Almighty is currently available to watch on AMC+.

Now, Netflix has announced that Bruce Almighty will be arriving on the streamer. The first day to stream Bruce Almighty will be on January 1, 2025. Evan Almighty will not be arriving on Netflix, so users will have to seek the sequel elsewhere for now.

These qualities make Bruce Almighty well worth checking out when it comes to Netflix in just two weeks.
