Does Pokémon TCG Pocket's Mythical Island Have A Secret Card Like Genetic Apex's Mew?

The new Mythical Island mini-set for Pokémon TCG Pocket has finally been released and, with it, players have not only gained access to dozens of new cards but also a load of new content that includes missions, unique rewards, and more. Mythical Island is the second expansion to the virtual Trading Card Game, which is currently available for iOS and Android devices. The mini-set arrived a while after the game’s release and the debut of the Genetic Apex cards for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which composed the title’s first expansion.

As a mini-set, Mythical Island has much fewer cards than Genetic Apex. While the first collection was composed of 286 cards, the new expansion brings 86 cards to the table. Mythical Island is centered around Mew but features cards of several other Pokémon, including many that were not yet available in the game. The expansion also adds new prints for existing cards. Because of all the new content added with the release of Mythical Island, it’s reasonable to wonder if the expansion has a special card like the secret Mew from Pokémon TCG Pocket: Genetic Apex.

The Mini-Set Does Have Secret Missions To Complete

For reference, the secret Mew card from Genetic Apex can be unlocked by obtaining a card for each of the original 150 Gen 1 Pokémon. This is an obscure accomplishment that is not explicitly shown in players’ mission logs. Those who do not know of its existence will likely be surprised upon receiving an immersive artwork card in Pokémon TCG Pocket centered around the first Mythical Pokémon. The announcement of Mythical Island prompted questions among the community, which wondered if there would be a new secret card to unlock with the mini-set.

Unfortunately, there is no secret card to unlock within Mythical Island’s contents. Despite the presence of several secret missions to accomplish, which grant various rewards, there is no secret immersive card to obtain, such as one centered around Celebi, the second Mythical Pokémon in the franchise. As such, collection-focused players do not need to worry about any specific requirements to obtain a rare card – instead, they can focus on simply completing their collection with the release of Pokémon TCG Pocket: Mythical Island.

Even though there are no secret cards to unlock with the extra collection, players can get a plethora of rewards from completing secret missions with the new Mythical Island mini-set. This includes Pack Hourglasses, Wonder Hourglasses, Shop Tickets, and even an exclusive Celebi Emblem that can only be obtained by gathering a certain collection of cards. These missions are only revealed in-game once they are completed, so players can’t normally see them.

These secret missions stack with the other regular quests that players can see by accessing the Missions page. For the Mythical Island missions, players will then have to access the Themed Collections function to see what cards they need to acquire.

It’s important to note that, like the regular and explicitly listed missions, these secret missions for Mythical Island cards are not time-gated. As such, even with the release of the next set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, likely occurring in 2025’s first quarter, the current cards will still be acquirable and the respective missions will still be available for completion – provided that players continue to open Mythical Island booster packs and use pack points to obtain whatever is still missing from the collection. If the set is ever discontinued, however, the missions should also be removed.

The Mythical Island mini-set is the first of more expansions expected to arrive as the new card game continues to grow over the upcoming year. For now, players should concentrate on completing their ever-growing collection of cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
