Everyone Who Dies In The Day Of The Jackal Season 1

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Day of the Jackal season 1.

The Day of the Jackal (2024) follows a highly skilled assassin who racks up quite the death toll over just 10 episodes, but he is not the only killer seen on screen. The series is an updated and contemporary adaptation of an earlier 1973 film, which was in turn based on a novel from a few years earlier by Frederick Forsyth. The series stars Eddie Redmayne as the titular Jackal, and Lashana Lynch as the determined MI6 agent Bianca Pullman, who is in hot pursuit.

While Jackal is clearly intended to a be a villain, with his role as an assassin being a clear sign of his morals, the series explores the complexity of everyone's motivations. From the very first episode, there are numerous deaths. These range from targets, to bystanders, and even people who stand in MI6's way.

24 Rufus The German Janitor

In the opening scene of the series, the Jackal is listening to a tape recording of a voice as he learns to mimic it. Moments later, it is revealed that the voice and face belong to the first victim seen on the show, Rufus. This elderly man is a janitor who works for the company which the Jackal's next target is the owner of. While his death is not seen on screen, the charging cable seen around his neck makes it clear that he is indeed a victim of the Jackal's ruthless operation.

23 People Working In The Fest Offices

Disguised as Rufus, the Jackal infiltrates the Fest offices and manages to get on the same floor as Elias Fest, Manfred's son. The Jackal eventually drops his disguise when he pulls a gun, shooting the security guard on that floor, and several others within the offices. After this, he chases Elias to a stairwell where he shoots a bullet next to his head after shooting his leg, before making his escape. At least three people died in this scene.

22 Manfred Fest

It appears that the Jackal's shooting at Elias was simply to lure his father, Manfred, into a public setting. Despite being surrounded by many guards, Jackal sets up a sniper more than two miles away from his target, and with tremendous skill, he fires the gun, predicting where Manfred's steps will place him by the time the bullet travels that two-mile distance. This is the pivotal death that sets all other events in motion in the show as MI6 begins to look for a sniper whose skill would make them capable of such a shot.

21 Emma Stoke

In an effort to track down the Jackal, Bianca Pullman calls on contacts in Northern Ireland who are related to a known special weapons manufacturer that could have made the weapon the Jackal used to pull off Manfred's assassination. When Alison Stoke is unreceptive, Bianca captures and imprisons her daughter, Emma, in an effort to get her to cooperate. Unfortunately, Emma suffers from a health condition and while in prison, she suddenly dies. Despite this, Bianca conceals this information from her parents until she gets more information.

After Bianca gets vital information on Norman Stoke's whereabouts, she and several other agents go to the location to capture and interrogate Norman. Norman is prepared, however, and he sets traps to kill several agents. Bianca survives, but at least three other agents are killed in the conflict.

19 Alison Stoke

Once Alison and Larry Stoke learn about their daughter's tragic death, they travel over to the UK to retrieve the body. However, Larry discovers his wife was informing MI6 behind his back about his brother, Norman, the special weapons maker. Larry lashes out, and in a brutal and emotional moment, he beats his wife to death.

18 Elias Fest & His Security Detail

While Bianca is chasing a loose trail of breadcrumbs to find Jackal, the Jackal is trying to collect on the debt owed for killing Manfred Fest. Despite completing the job, the customer did not pay the total owed. Jackal does some digging and discovers the customer was actually Manfred's son, Elias. He then captures Elias, kills some of his security, and shoots Elias for not paying his dues.

17 Delivery Driver & French Police Officer

After killing Elias, Jackal needs to escape, but in a distracted moment, he bumps into a delivery truck on a road in France. The driver of the truck steps out and hails a police car over to help settle the dispute. While Jackal tries to remain calm and diffuse the tense situation, the police officer chooses to inspect the contents of a bag that contains a handgun, large bundles of cash, and passports. The Jackal then shoots the police officer, and tosses a gun into the driver's hands in order to frame him. He then shoots the driver dead, and leaves both men as if there was a violent but brief shootout between the two.

16 Norman Stoke

Norman Stoke was commissioned by the Jackal to create another custom weapon, but after being injured in the raid by MI6 agents, he requires help to build the weapon. Jackal travels to Hungary to meet with Norman, and they work together to create a new piece. However, MI6 shows up at Norman's workshop, and capture Norman. Jackal was outside the workshop, and when he spotted the agents arriving, he shoots Norman in the head to preserve his identity. A brief but intense firefight between the Jackal and MI6 agents ensues, and the Jackal escapes alive.

15 Attila & Gabor

After escaping from agent Pullman and other MI6 agents, Jackal hides in a barn where he falls asleep. When he wakes up, a strange man stands above him with a shotgun. This is Attila, a farmer, and when he learns that Jackal has money and a weapon, he chooses to detain him and call his brother for help. However, Attila teases and pushes the Jackal, which causes him to lash out and kill the man. When his brother Gabor arrives, he kills him as well, and escapes with another young man who he prepares to kill. However, when the Jackal learns this man has a wife and small child, just like him, he lets him live.

Despite preparing meticulously to pull off the hit, another man steps forward moments before Jackal pulls the trigger, and attempts to kill UDC. This man was a part of UDC's own security, and when he steps on stage, he is quickly shot and killed to defend UDC from harm.

13 Rasmus

While preparing to pull off the hit in Tallinn, Estonia, where the UDC event is, the Jackal connects with a young man named Rasmus to get an insider view of the venue. Despite telling Rasmus that he was leaving days earlier, Rasmus spots him walking away from the venue, and calls out the name he knew him by, Peter. This could compromise the Jackal's identity, and so he kills Rasmus in order to avoid any loose ends.

12 Taliban Leader

The Day of the Jackal then jumps back in time to when the Jackal was a sniper in the British Army. He was assigned with a unit to take down high-profile Taliban leaders in Afghanistan, and he did this with incredible skill and precision. One of the first targets he takes down is then revealed to be a Taliban leader who is entering a secure compound, but the Jackal is able to eliminate the target with ease.

This activity in Afghanistan causes quite a stir with locals, especially when the Jackal's unit stops by a bar in the local area. He is there approached by a mysterious man who offers tens of thousands of pounds to hire him for private work. The Jackal takes him up on the offer, and takes out a target, and then retains the man's card, presumably to acquire more work later on.

After Larry Stoke lost his daughter, his wife, and his brother within a short span of time, he is full of rage and contempt towards Bianca. While he is held in prison, Bianca meets with him to try and get some more details about his now deceased brother, but Larry pulls a knife out and stabs himself to death in front of her.

9 All Those Attending The Wedding That Jackal's Troop Stormed

Again in Afghanistan, while Jackal is serving with his unit, they are hunting for a target who they believe to be in attendance at a wedding celebration. The unit aggressively approaches the wedding guests, demanding to see the target, and when things get too tense, they begin shooting at the men, women, and children who are there. In order to cover up their mistake, they call in a bomb strike to destroy the building and any evidence that they shot first at the many civilians there. Jackal was not involved in this incident, as he was positioned much further back, and did not shoot at anyone in the party.

Evidently, the Jackal felt that the incident was a turning point as he saw the cover-ups and dishonesty of the people he worked for and with. As a result, he decided to blow up the rest of his unit, aside from his closest friend, and fake his own death. From this point onward, he appears to have taken on the role of an assassin for hire, still killing people, but he chose the targets and got bigger paydays.

7 Jimmy Tejero

Near the end of season 1, the Jackal's brother-in-law, Alvaro, gets involved in a shady business with a Cuban mob boss. Alvaro sets up a meeting between them in a public restaurant in Cadiz, Spain, and promises the Jackal will be there. However, the Jackal instead kills the mob boss in order to keep his family safe and out of trouble.

After the failed attempt to kill UDC in Estonia, the Jackal travels to Croatia to kill him at his private island residence. In order to do this, the Jackal needs to hire a boat, and position himself at a suitable distance from the island to not appear as a threat, but close enough to pull off the hit. He hires a fisherman's boat to get on the water nearby. But of course, to kill UDC, he needs privacy, and so he kills the fisherman once they get into position.

He then sets up his equipment, uses an EMT to knock out drones flying overhead, and aims. UDC is only visible to take the shot while swimming around the island, and Jackal takes aim. His first shot takes out a private guard swimming with UDC who keeps him safe by pushing him under the water and out of sight. Then, seconds later, Jackal fires his second shot, hitting UDC cleanly and leaving him dead in the water.
