Little Friends Dogs & Cats is a Switch game that was inspired by the Nintendogs franchise. In it, players can own up to 12 virtual pets, both puppies and kittens, and take care of them much as they would in Nintendogs. The game lets players take their pets for walks, compete in flying disc tournaments, and generally play and interact with their choice of nine dog and cat breeds. The current options for pets are also reminiscent of the Nintendogs title, and include the following:
Toy Poodle
Shiba
Chihuahua
French Bulldog
Labrador Retriever
German Shepherd
Japanese Cat
American Shorthair Cat
Scottish Fold Cat
Like Nintendogs, each pet has its own personality, likes, dislikes, behavior, and looks, offering players a wide variety of play experiences. While Nintendogs had a small selection of accessories, Little Friends: Dogs & Cats includes a much larger number of many different types of accessories and outfits, with over 600 hats, glasses, shirts, and other stylish articles of clothing to choose from to make each pet unique.
Our Take: A Worthwhile Bargain
Nintendogs May Never Come To The Switch

Nintendogs was released in 2005 and remains a favorite of many fans to this day. The game allowed players to take care of a virtual dog and, in a later edition, cats. There were many breeds available to choose from, and the gameplay was cozy and relaxed, consisting of playing with, feeding, bathing, training, and otherwise caring for the digital pet. Unfortunately, none of the Nintendogs games are available for the Nintendo Switch, making it impossible for players without a prior-gen console like the Nintendo DS to enjoy it.
Related I'm Convinced The Switch 2 Can Bring Back Nintendo's Cutest Abandoned Franchise The Switch 2 could be the perfect time for an adorable Nintendo franchise that's been missing for over a decade to make a spectacular return.
The absence of Nintendogs on the Switch is likely due to the fact that the games' director Hideki Konno and his team are busy working on other projects, like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Nintendo has been very quiet about whether it has any plans to bring a new virtual pet game to the Switch or its upcoming successor, but until then, Little Friends Dogs & Cats can fill the gap left in many fans' hearts. Although it's not an exact replacement for the earlier Nintendo title, the massive limited-time sale makes it a very worthwhile purchase, especially with no news of Nintendogs ever coming to current-gen Nintendo consoles.
