The Red Ranger Is Gearing Up for a Power Rangers Fight That Will Blow the Minds of Every '90s Kid

The Power Rangers showdown of every '90s kid's dream is finally coming to fruition. The Power Rangers franchise is no stranger to bringing unthinkable crossovers to fruition. The Rangers have shared the screen (and the page) with everyone from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the original dream demon, Freddy Krueger. Their next crossover, though, is the ultimate childhood TV dream fight.

Power Rangers Prime #4 by Melissa Flores, Michael YG, and Fabi Marques promises to deliver the long-awaited dream fight between the Power Rangers and the VR Troopers. BOOM! Studios' February solicitations have all the details for the upcoming issue.

The Power Rangers Will Face the VR Troopers in the New Prime Series

A year after the success of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show, Saban released VR Troopers as its official sister series. It wasn't canon to the Power Rangers universe, but like MMPR, it borrowed elements and old Japanese stock footage to be produced (specifically Space Sheriff Shaider, Spacetime Warrior Spielban, and Superhuman Machine Metalder). While VR Troopers never reached the same success as Power Rangers, being canceled after two seasons, the show has nonetheless manifested a cult following in the years since being pulled from the airwaves.

As a new Rangers roster comes to fruition, they are inevitably going to be forced into a confrontation with the VR Troopers.

However, the VR Troopers franchise has, more recently, yielded a second life by joining the same universe as the Power Rangers in the comics. Power Rangers Prime directly ties itself to VR Troopers in an alternate universe where an Eltarian takeover essentially reduces the Power Rangers to extinction. The people of Eltar (yes, Zordon's home planet) produce their own Power Rangers-like strike team force: the VR Troopers. However, the Power Rangers cannot be kept away forever, and as a new Rangers roster comes to fruition, they are inevitably going to be forced into a confrontation with the VR Troopers.

How Will the VR Troopers Face the Power Rangers?

As of writing, there is only one issue of Power Rangers Prime, and thus, there is still a long way to go before readers get to a VR Troopers confrontation in issue #4. The new Rangers squad has yet to even officially assemble yet with morphers in hand. While Power Rangers Samurai alumnus Lauren Shiba has made her return to the franchise, a new Red Ranger for the Prime team has yet to rise, as alluded to in the above solicit.

However, while there is still much to wait for, there is also much to speculate about. One has to assume that a fight will be ushered in by the revival of a new Power Rangers team, inspiring a battle for the ages. However, readers still don't know much about the Troopers behind the helmets. If they truly are heroes with the right intentions, then perhaps learning the not-so-right intentions of their Eltarians in power will be enough to justify a turn to helping the Rangers. A Power Rangers vs. VR Troopers fight could turn into a dream team-up.
