Back To The Future Part II's Jaws Scene Made A Prediction That Eventually Came True 13 Years Later

Back to the Future Part II takes the franchise ahead to 2015, and although the movie didn't predict the future with complete accuracy, there was a specific piece of foreshadowing that came eerily close. The first Back to the Future sequel actually got several things right about 2015, despite being released in 1989. However, there is one piece of the movie's lore that resonated particularly well with viewers, and the prediction was pretty much fulfilled in the real world in 2002.

The Back to the Future movies are widely considered to form one of the best and most consistent trilogies of all time. Led throughout by Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown, the Back to the Future cast takes the audience through a thrilling time travel adventure that features almost as much nail-biting jeopardy as it boasts comedic moments. Despite an emphasis on making the audience laugh, the second movie especially paid a lot of attention to its time travel lore.

Max Spielberg Directed A Movie In 2002 - 13 Years After Back To The Future Predicted It

The legendary director's son eventually made his own film (but it wasn't Jaws 19)

1975's Jaws is considered one of the best of all of Steven Spielberg's movies. When Back to the Future Part II came out in 1989, there had been another three Jaws movies made, although Spielberg had stepped away after the first. So, the Back to the Future sequel clearly assumed this level of progress would continue into 2015, as a poster for Jaws 19 can be spotted in the movie when Marty travels to the future. Within the world of the movie, Jaws has become a generational franchise, as it's directed by Max Spielberg - the son of the legendary director.

Jaws Movies Release Timeline Movie Year Director Rotten Tomatoes Score Jaws 1975 Steven Spielberg 97% Jaws 2 1978 Jeannot Szwarc 56% Jaws 3/Jaws 3D 1983 Joe Alves 11% Jaws: The Revenge 1987 Joseph Sargent 2% Cruel Jaws 1995 Bruno Mattei Not rated

In 2002, Max actually took to the director's chair as he made a short film called Snap Shot. Obviously, he never actually made Jaws 19, as there hasn't been another addition to the franchise since 1995's Cruel Jaws, which flopped. That being said, predicting that Max would follow in his father's footsteps is still impressive, even if it did happen outside the Jaws franchise. Interestingly, Max was just four years old when Back to the Future Part II was released.

Max Spielberg Has Since Moved Away From The Movie Business

Steven Spielberg's son has shifted into another creative industry

Snap Shot wasn't exactly the kind of project that shot Max Speilberg to movie-making success. In fact, his credits in the industry have been very sparse ever since. Instead, he has been far more active in the video game industry, serving in various roles from graphic designer to game tester in big franchises like Assassin's Creed and Medal of Honor. His most recent movie credit was as an executive producer for 2022's Bandit starring Mel Gibson, but he has largely stayed away from the career path teased by Back to the Future Part II.
