Pokémon TCG Pocket: Best Mythical Island Psychic-Type Deck & How To Use It
Mythical Island provides some interesting upgrades to one of the dominant decks in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Several powerful decks are emerging in Pokémon TCG Pocket with the arrival of Mythical Island, the brand-new mini-expansion. With only around 60 new cards (not counting alternate art cards), Mythical Island only contains a few new powerful card combos that can be used as the basis of a new deck. However, the set does contain several cards that can enhance already existing dominant decks.
For example, Mythical Island has several cards that augment the already powerful Mewtwo ex deck. You can either replace Mewtwo ex with the powerful but matchup-dependent Mew ex or augment your existing Mewtwo ex deck with the Mythical Slab card. Both implements can help improve an existing Psychic-type deck but don't outright replace the full deck archetypes used to make Mewtwo ex/Gardevoir, one of the strongest decks in the game.

If you want to create a totally new deck, you should start with Mew ex. This card is one of the strongest in Mythical Island thanks to its Genome Hacking attack, which is able to replicate an attack from the opponent's Active Pokémon. This is a great attack that can replicate powerful attacks like Charizard ex's Crimson Storm or Mewtwo ex's Psydrive. Genome Hacking ignores Energy also discards requirements from those attacks, so you can mow down opponents without worrying about Energy restocking.

While Mew ex is great, it has a glaring weakness against Pikachu ex. Pikachu ex's Circle Circuit attack only deals damage for every Electric-type Pokémon on the bench, which means that Mew ex can't replicate its attack strength. However, you can use the new Beheeyem card from Mythical Island to help counter decks reliant on Benched Pokémon. Beheeyem typically deals 10 damage with its Mind Jack attack, but the attack's power increases by 20 for every Benched Pokémon your opponent has. While Beheeyem can't take out Pikachu ex with one hit, it would at least weaken the Pokémon for a follow-up attack.
Instead of focusing solely on Mew ex, you would do better to slot Mew ex into the Mewtwo ex deck. Mewtwo ex's Psydrive knocks out most Pokémon with one hit, and Mew ex can jump in when the opponent has placed a strong attacker into the Active spot. This deck variation would also benefit from the new Trainer card Leaf, which lowers a Pokémon's Retreat cost by two. That would allow you to swap out Mewtwo ex for free to put Mew ex into play. You can also add Mythical Slab to pull out Psychic-type Pokémon from a deck more quickly.

Assuming that you want to use Mew ex and Mewtwo ex together, an ideal deck list would be as follows:
Mew ex
Mewtwo ex x2
Ralts x2
Kirlia x2
Gardevoir x2
Mythical Slab x2
Poke Ball x2
Sabrina
Professor's Research x2
Leaf
Budding Expeditioner
Potion x2
You should try to get Mewtwo ex in the Active Spot as quickly as possible to act as a wall against opening attacks. Mythical Slab helps to draw Gardevoir and its pre-evolved forms earlier in the game to help set Gardevoir's Energy acceleration up as soon as possible. You should focus on splitting energy between Mewtwo ex and Mew ex, with Gardevoir ramping up the Active Pokémon with Energy as needed. Mew ex serves as a solid secondary option, with Budding Expeditioner and Leaf serving as ways to switch Mew ex in for free.

You can also use Sabrina to force out an unfavorable matchup for Mew ex. Ideally, you can use Sabrina to push out a stall Pokémon and put in an opponent's primary attacker while it doesn't have enough energy to attack. This strategy should work well against almost every dominant Pokémon deck while helping to mitigate the poor draws that sometimes stymie the existing Mew ex deck.
Ultimately, a strong Psychic-type deck doesn't reinvent the wheel with Mythical Island cards but rather uses them to augment an already powerful deck. Mewtwo ex is one of the strongest decks in the game, and Mew ex, Leaf, and Mythical Slab make the deck even stronger. Keep in mind that Mew ex doesn't need any Psychic energy to use its Genome Hacking attack, so expect Pokémon TCG Pocket players to use it in other strong decks (like Charizard ex) as it's a powerful counter in many circumstances.
