Jurassic World Rebirth Should Bring Back The Franchise’s Most Bizarre Idea That None Of The Films Were Brave Enough To Do

The latest chapter in the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, will act as a soft reboot for the franchise, which makes it the perfect time to put one of the franchise's wildest story concepts into action. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, Jurassic World Rebirth plot details indicate there will be a time jump from the events of Jurassic World Dominion. Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, the leader of a team of hunters and specialists who are tracking down DNA samples of the last surviving dinosaurs in the world for a pharmaceutical company.

The only other major plot detail that's been revealed is that Zora and her team encounter a shipwrecked family during their hunt, which results in them all ending up on an island that holds a "sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades", as the official synopsis puts it. Naturally, speculation has taken off about what that shocking discovery might be, and of the many predictions for Jurassic World Rebirth, one makes a ton of sense given the "sinister" qualifier of the secret. In fact, it's an idea that's been thrown around for more than 15 years.

Jurassic World Rebirth Should Finally Include Human-Dinosaur Hybrids

The Idea Has Been Rumored Since Before Jurassic World

An early pitch for Jurassic Park IV featured human-dinosaur hybrids, with the idea getting at least as far as concept art before it was eventually scrapped. Jurassic Park IV eventually evolved into Jurassic World, but the seeds of the human-dino hybrids remained; Jurassic World's primary antagonist is the Indominus Rex, which is itself a hybrid dinosaur that contains genetic materials from a T. rex and Velociraptor, among other dinosaurs. The hybrid concept would continue in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with the Indoraptor, and the cloned human girl Maisie Lockwood.

Jurassic Park Franchise - Key Details Movie Release Date Budget Box Office RT Tomatometer Score RT Popcornmeter Score Jurassic Park 1993 $63 million $1.058 billion 91% 91% Jurassic Park: The Lost World 1997 $73 million $618.6 million 53% 52% Jurassic Park III 2001 $93 million $368.8 million 49% 37% Jurassic World 2015 $150-$215 million $1.671 billion 72% 78% Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 2018 $432 million $1.31 billion 47% 48% Jurassic World Dominion 2022 $265 million $1.004 billion 29% 77%

Really, a human-dinosaur hybrid is the next logical step in the Jurassic Park franchise, which is predicated on the concept that science's perversion of nature can have disastrous results. A human-dinosaur hybrid would be the ultimate perversion of nature, but is one that would logically be pursued if that kind of technology existed. It also fits the bill of the "sinister, shocking discovery" that the revealed plot synopsis outlined.

A Human-Dinosaur Hybrid Sounds Ridiculous, But It Could Be Scary If Done Right

The Alien Franchise Shows How It Could Work

One of the problems that the Jurassic Park franchise has faced since Jurassic Park III is the fact that dinosaurs have lost their scariness somewhat. The original T. rex of Jurassic Park was a genuinely terrifying creation of practical and special effects, as was the spinosaurus of Jurassic Park III. The heavily CGI'd hybrid monsters of the Jurassic World installments simply don't pack the same punch, however. In a cinematic world where CGI kaiju and aliens are commonplace, dinosaurs simply don't do it anymore (which is, ironically, the very attitude that resulted in the Indominus' Rex's birth).

Jurassic World Rebirth is set to release in theaters on July 2nd, 2025.

However, a human-dinosaur hybrid could bring some legitimate fear back to the sci-fi franchise. While the idea might seem silly on the surface, crossing a dinosaur with a human has all sorts of exciting design possibilities. The recently-released Alien: Romulus proved how effective the strategy could be; the creature known as The Offspring that emerges in the movie's climax is a genetic cross between a human and a Xenomorph, and it's by far the most disturbing monster to appear in the movie. Jurassic World Rebirth could take a similar approach and come out with something truly unique and scary.
