Silo Season 2: Mechanical's Rocket Plan & IT Message Explained
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Silo season 2, episode 7.
The people from Silo 18's Mechanical come up with a clever plan in Silo season 2's episode 7 to expose Bernard and the IT. While Juliette still struggles to make her way back to her home in Silo season 2's episode 7, the people from the Mechanical do not let Bernard hold them back from spreading their rebellion. They understand that by blocking them from traveling to the upper levels, Bernard has managed to hold them back from continuing their quest for answers.
However, despite Bernard's best efforts to push them down, the citizens of the Mechanical find new creative ways to fight back. This is all the more evident in Silo season 2's episode 7, where they put Bernard in a tight spot without even moving up the stairs. Their plan initially seems strange, but the more it unfolds, the more sense it makes.
Why Mechanical Shot A Rocket Up The Silo In Season 2
They Use The Rocket To Send A Message
The Head of Security's raiders block the lower levels of the Silo by putting barricades on the stairs. They do this to ensure the people from the Mechanical do not spread their rebellious ideas to the ones at the top. In Silo season 2's episode 6, the people from Mechanical manage to push the barricades further up to level 120. However, going beyond that seems impossible without putting up a violent fight that would cause them more harm than good. Therefore, in Silo season 2's episode 7, they build a rocket-like structure to break the boundaries enforced on them.
Related How Many Rebellions Were There In Silo 18? While many aspects of Silo 18's history remain obscure in the show, Silo season 2 hints at how many rebellions have taken place in the main setting.
With a powerful engine, they create a rocket that rises almost to the Silo's ceiling. However, before crashing against the roof, it stops and ejects a parachute, allowing it to descend slowly. The rocket then releases hundreds of notes that help people from the Mechanical spread their rebellious ideas to the ones at the top. They even follow this up with an intriguing action that helps them prove that the Silo's leadership and the IT department do not have the citizens' best interests in mind.
The Rocket's Messages About IT Explained
The Messages Reveal That The IT Is Deceiving The People
When Bernard finds out about the rocket, he rushes outside and grabs one of the notes. It reads: "I.T. lied to us. Mechanical wants the TRUTH. What happened to Juliette? How did Meadows really die? What is I.T. hiding? Look and See." The message in the note serves as a wake-up call to the people at the top because they remain unaware of how Bernard and the IT are controlling them. Bernard and his men prevent the people from the Mechanical from heading up and spreading the wings of their rebellion.
...Even though the people from the Mechanical prompt the citizens from the higher level to question the IT's motives, they realize that they will have to do a lot more than send notes through a rocket.
By killing Meadows and putting the blame for her murder on Knox and Shirley, Bernard also manages to convince the people at the top that the Mechanical is up to no good. Owing to this, even though the people from the Mechanical prompt the citizens from the higher level to question the IT's motives, they realize that they will have to do a lot more than send notes through a rocket. Therefore, to back their claims with concrete proof, the Mechanical follows up the rocket launch with another crucial step that effectively turns the tides against Bernard.
Why Mechanical Shut Off The Power After Shooting Off The Rocket
The Power Cut Proves Their Point
Close
To prove that something seriously suspicious was happening inside the IT, the Mechanical folks cut the power supply in the entire silo. Silo season 2 previously established that the IT has a separate power source, which is somehow connected to the outside world. By shutting the power in the entire Silo down, the Mechanical department proves that the IT stands as a separate entity and remains unaffected by the power cut in the Silo.
This does not necessarily expose what the IT has been doing behind the scenes. However, it encourages people from the higher levels to question whether Bernard and the IT have been as transparent to them as they claim to be. With this, the Mechanical manages to draw some people from the higher levels to their side, inspiring them to join the rebellion against Bernard Silo season 2.
