The NYT Spelling Bee Puzzle is a different type of puzzle that still involves knowing a lot of words. As the name implies, you will be focused much more on spelling. However, you will have to construct the words yourself from a series of letters given to you by the puzzle. You must always include the letter in the center honeycomb, but otherwise, you just have to use a combination of the letters available to build as many words as possible. Get them all, and you will have an enviable streak at the end of the day.

If you need some hints for today’s puzzle, there are quite a few waiting for you below. Two categories are fairly straightforward today, while the other two were a little more challenging to sort out. That might depend on how you view the words in the puzzle, as there was a particular trick to why they gave me trouble. Here are four clues to help you avoid that trouble:

One category is about color

One category is about the four things you need to know for a certain type of event

One category is about something that grows all the time

One category is about words that sound like something else - that something else can be found by looking out your window

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

SHADES OF RED BRICK CHERRY MAROON RUBY

This category was fairly easy to spot after I started looking at the words. At first, the words may seem like they have nothing to do with each other, but as someone who is obsessed with the office supply aisle of the store and with art supplies in general, these words are used to describe red in a lot of different types of supplies. Once I spotted MAROON, it got the gears turning and I pieced the category together as I spotted the remaining reds one-by-one.

Green Answers: Revealed & Explained

APPOINTMENT SPECIFICATIONS DATE DURATION LOCATION TIME

When I saw DURATION and TIME, I had a strong suspicion about that as the category but I just was not certain when I didn’t see anything else that had that same meaning. As it turned out, it was not about lengths of time but rather an assortment of details that people need when scheduling appointments. Luckily, I did put them all together before I wasted a guess elsewhere, but I wasn’t actually sure that it would be right until I saw the correct answer pop.

Blue Answers: Revealed & Explained

DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF HAIR HEAD LOCK STRAND WISP

This is the one that was a little difficult as I was under the impression that it was more of types of hair and FUR made more sense to me in this category than HEAD did. However, after a couple of “one away” guesses I was able to deduce the right order and luckily did so before I ran out of guesses. LOCK, STRAND, and WISP always made the most sense to me but seeing the category name made HEAD much more convincing.

Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained

TREE HOMOPHONES BEACH FUR PAIR YOU

This last one would be hard to guess upfront as not only would you have to know a fair amount of tree types but you would also have to know what they sounded like and associate those things when you are reading these words. FUR and BEACH are likely the most recognizable depending on the part of the world you are in, although I do like a good PAIR tree. Still, even with my fairly decent tree knowledge, figuring this category out was difficult.
