Wicked has passed a major box office milestone after more than a month in theaters. The 2024 movie, which has been nominated for four Golden Globes, is an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical of the same name, which is in turn adapted from the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel about the origin of The Wizard of Oz's Wicked Witch of the West. After the movie opened the weekend before Thanksgiving, the record-breaking Wicked box office quickly climbed past $500 million worldwide in addition to surpassing 1978's Grease to become the highest-grossing Broadway musical adaptation in domestic box office history.

Per Deadline, Wicked has passed a major milestone at the domestic box office over Christmas week as its at-home release quickly approaches on December 31. As of Saturday morning, the movie musical, which was directed by Jon M. Chu, is projected to earn a 3-day total of $19.85 million over the traditional weekend and a 5-day total of $32.1 million over the holiday weekend. This will push its cumulative domestic total to $424.6 million, easily clearing the $400 million milestone in North America.
