Cyclops Wants to Keep Professor Xavier Locked Up And Honestly? The X-Men Icon Has a Good Reason
Warning! Spoilers for X-Men #9 ahead.
For the longest time in X-Men history, Cyclops was Professor Charles Xavier’s most loyal student, who coveted achieving his teacher’s mutant dream of equality, but now, Scott Summers is more than willing to do everything in his power to keep Xavier in prison – and he actually has a compelling reason for why.

Cyclops was one of Charles Xavier's first students and X-Men members, meaning he was on the front lines to witness all of Xavier’s wrongdoings, and therefore, has valid reason to no longer trust Professor X.

During the Fall of X, Charles Xavier made a deal to work with Orchis and committed several heinous acts for them in an attempt to save mutants which Cyclops, the X-Men, and the rest of the world witnessed in horror. However, Xavier’s betrayal isn’t the only reason Cyclops doesn’t want anything to do with Xavierm as Cyclops tells Rogue that Charles will always put his dream before his X-Men. This is largely apparent when the original X-Men are captured on Krakoa; Professor Xavier sends a team of inexperienced mutants to their deaths and then erases the incident from Cyclops’ mind.
Cyclops is one of the X-Men’s most level-headed leaders, and he’s waking up to the fact that Professor Xavier causes more harm than good to their fight for mutant equality.
Cyclops lost his youth by essentially becoming a teenage soldier to fight for Charles Xavier’s dream, and Scott is right in believing Xavier is a serial manipulator. Professor X will never stop lying to the X-Men as he’s faked several events, erased many unsuspecting mutants' minds, including Cyclops’, and even in the current “From the Ashes” era, Professor X hides the truth of what happened with Orchis. Cyclops is one of the X-Men’s most level-headed leaders, and he’s waking up to the fact that Professor Xavier causes more harm than good to their fight for mutant equality.
The X-Men Are More Divided Than Ever; Of Course, Xavier Is At The Center of The Divide
How Far Will Cyclops Go To Stop Charles?
Even when Professor X freed himself from captivity, Xavier mentally took control of both Nightcrawler and Psylocke to help him escape, showing he’s still willing to use the X-Men for his benefit, validating Scott’s fears. With Charles on the loose, Cyclops and his team may very well have to align themselves with their enemies in Graymalkin to prevent Xavier’s jailbreak. Cyclops and Rogue are set to war over the fate of Professor X, but truthfully, Cyclops has a compelling reason why Charles Xavier should remain imprisoned and play no part in the X-Men’s fight for mutant liberation.
