For years, Tammy backslid - she couldn't stay on diets because the deep-seated issues that drove her to overeat were too extreme. That doesn't make her a bad person - it's just the way things were. At some point, perhaps due to fears about her health, she found the strength to overcome an addiction that was ingrained. That is so hard to do.

It's great that Tammy was strong enough to survive. In the old days, her weight really held her back.
