Hazbin Hotel Season 2: Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Prime Video's long-gestating animated series Hazbin Hotel finally produced a full season in 2024, and it has already been renewed for a second. Created by Vivienne Medrano, the series follows Charlie Morningstar, the princess of Hell who dreams of opening a hotel for sinners in which they can rehabilitate their souls to avoid being destroyed due to overpopulation in the underworld. Despite its heady high-concept ideas, Hazbin Hotel shines because of its catchy songs, relatable characters, and fascinating use of animation to tell its story.

Hazbin Hotel got its start as a pilot episode released online in 2019, and though the pilot didn't go anywhere for years, it allowed creator Vivienne Medrano to pursue other projects. Finally, Hazbin Hotel got a second chance thanks to Amazon Prime Video, and it was even renewed for a second season before the first dropped a single episode. That faith was rewarded when Hazbin Hotel went on to quickly shatter records for Prime Video, and become the most-viewed animated series on the platform. With that in mind, anticipation for season 2 is already mounting.

As the wait continues for the much-anticipated sophomore season, the latest news confirms that Hazbin Hotel will explore Alastor's backstory in the future. Revealed by series creator Vivienne Medrano at 2024's San Diego Comic-Con, the popular supporting character will eventually take center stage. However, Medrano didn't reveal any specifics, and was even vague about when fans might expect to see more of Alastor's story.

Read Medrano's comments here:

But I'm really excited to actually get into that in the real show because I feel like, I mean, obviously Alastor's such a fun character that everyone is excited to see more of and learn more of. So I really want to canonize that. And so I'm really excited when we get to get into his backstory, because I'm like, Yes, I know exactly what it is. It's been with me for so long that I'm like, I can't wait for that to be real though in a TV show. It's so cool.

In another San Diego Comic-Con reveal, Medrano confirmed that Hazbin Hotel season 2 will explore more of Hell and provide even more world-building. While confirming that Vox will be the primary antagonist in season 2, Medrano also mentioned that she's "really excited about what other parts of Hell we can explore." Perhaps most interestingly of all, Medrano spoke of her long game, hinting at an extended story that is set across seasons 3 and 4 as well.

Read Medrano's other comments here:

Season 2 we get more Rosie with the other Overlords. We get more presence, I think, in Hell because what's nice about season 2's antagonist is that he's a Hell character. That's Vox. So I think we get more of a focus on that world because he's also an overlord. So I'm excited for that. Obviously I can't speak to [other parts of Hell], but I'm very excited, especially with seasons 3 and 4. I feel like that's really where we can start to see even more because there's just so much more runway. So I'm really excited about what other parts of Hell we can explore.

Vivienne Medrano also created the web series Helluva Boss on YouTube.

Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Story

Season 1 Left A Lot Of Unanswered Questions

The shocking and twist-filled ending of season 1 left a lot of burning questions for Hazbin Hotel season 2, and those questions will likely make up the majority of the sophomore outing's story. Though Adam was seemingly defeated in the final battle, it stands to reason that he is still out there somewhere and could return to wreak havoc in season 2. Likewise, Lute could also wield the newfound power of Exterminations with even more reckless abandon than even Adam in a quest for savage revenge.

When Sir Pentious died and went to heaven, it proved that Charlie's plan could work to some degree. However, it also opened the door for more conflict in season 2 as her ally on the other side will not be able to communicate with those down in hell. One thing that Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano is most excited about in season 2 is the reveal that Charlie's mother, Lilith, somehow resides in heaven, a twist that will play out in season 2 and beyond.
