SHIMLA/KULLU: In a jolt to an already troubled Congress in Himachal Pradesh , Mandi MP Pratibha Singh on Wednesday announced that she would not contest Lok Sabha polls , saying “elections can’t be contested by merely distributing MPLADS funds”.“Congress workers are instrumental in our win, but currently they are feeling disappointed as the party has failed to give them due importance or any responsibilities. I don’t see any Congress workers out in the field campaigning,” Pratibha, who is also the state Congress president, told reporters.Pratibha, who had attended the meeting of Congress screening committee in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the names for the four seats of Himachal, said given the present situation, chances of the party’s success did not look bright.“I have remained in the field in recent times and going by the present condition, I don’t think we will get much success in the polls. That’s why I have decided to withdraw my name and informed the high command that I would not contest elections . I will support whosoever the party fields from Mandi,” she said.On bypolls to the six assembly seats, she said: “We will have to work day and night to ensure the victory of our candidates in by-elections so that we can save our govt.”
