Death at mall: Baby slips off father’s hands, falls 3 floors

RAIPUR: A year-old infant died after slipping from her father’s arms and falling 40 feet below at a mall in Raipur on Tuesday night. The father was cradling the infant while helping his elder child, a five-year-old boy, step onto an escalator on the third floor, when he lost his grip on his daughter. CCTV footage showed the infant’s head hit the floor first.Witnesses said that when the elder child struggled to step onto the escalator, the father pulled him up and that is when he lost balance, loosening his grip on the infant girl.“As there was no blood, everyone was hoping and praying that the child would survive. I saw some people trembling from the shock. It took a few minutes for the parents to get down to the ground floor, but the nearest bystanders rushed to cradle the baby. Within minutes, the child was rushed to hospital,” an eyewitness said.
