Star Wars: The Acolyte takes place in the High Republic era – as one of the Jedi Order’s oldest living members, will Yoda appear in the show? Star Wars: The High Republic is set a few centuries before the events of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The Acolyte's intriguing story will take place at the tail end of this era, roughly 100 years before Anakin Skywalker is discovered on Tatooine. As such, most of the characters introduced in The High Republic are unknown in live-action, though Yoda is one of the few who has crossed over between these Star Wars eras.
The Star Wars Timelines reference guide confirmed that Yoda was born in 896 BBY and that he began training Jedi 100 years later. This means that Yoda was an active and high-ranking member of the Jedi Order throughout the entire High Republic era. The High Republic’s novels confirmed that Yoda was a Grand Master in 232 BBY, two centuries before the first chronological Star Wars movie. Given the emerging threat of the dark side in The Acolyte, it would certainly make sense for him to be present in the show, but whether he will be is another question entirely.

Yoda Hasn't Been Confirmed To Appear In The Acolyte
Yoda's Potential Acolyte Appearance Remains A Mystery
Despite Yoda’s activity during the High Republic era, whether he will appear in The Acolyte has not been confirmed. This could be because Lucasfilm wants to keep it a secret; those unfamiliar with the High Republic era will undoubtedly be surprised if Yoda were to suddenly appear in one of the show’s episodes. However, it is important to note that the High Republic was known as the “Golden Age” of the Jedi. The Jedi numbered in their thousands, scattered across the galaxy. Yoda may be too far away from the action taking place in The Acolyte to make an appearance.
Showrunner Leslye Headland has stated The Acolyte will not focus on canon characters, somewhat lessening the chance of Yoda playing an integral role in the show's story.
The Acolyte Teases Other Jedi Taking On Yoda's Roles
Yoda's High Republic Activity Moves Him Away From The Coruscant Jedi Temple
The first official trailer for The Acolyte implies that other Jedi will be taking on some of Yoda’s most well-known roles within the Jedi Order. Lee Jung-jae’s Jedi Master Sol, for instance, is seen training a group of younglings in the trailer, which is normally one of Yoda’s primary duties. In some of The High Republic’s stories, Yoda is often said to be traveling the galaxy, either on his own or sometimes with small groups of younglings and Padawans, opting to take a break from the Jedi Council and train more inexperienced Jedi in the field.

Though Yoda’s appearance in The Acolyte would make sense, it would also risk shifting focus away from the new characters in the show. If the Sith, or some other dark side user, is trying to remain hidden in the shadows, they would likely be willing to do anything to avoid the wrath of the Jedi Council and the Order’s strongest and wisest members – Yoda included. Perhaps Yoda will never know what happened in the show, leaving the intriguing new characters of The Acolyte's cast to investigate emerging dark powers alone.
The Acolyte's Murders Will Concern The Jedi Council
The Dark Story Of The Acolyte Should Draw Yoda's Attention
Close
Despite the evidence of Yoda not appearing in The Acolyte, it remains the case that the show's central story would concern him and the other members of the Jedi Council. As has been confirmed by The Acolyte's marketing material thus far, the crux of the show's story surrounds an assassin murdering members of the Jedi Order. The Acolyte's trailers make it clear that the assassin, Amandla Stenberg's Mae, is highly effective in her dark work, murdering several members of the Order and kickstarting the grim events of the series.
Yoda should be concerned and thus involved with The Acolyte's story if enough members of the Order fall victim to Mae's assassination attempts.
With such effectiveness on display, it stands to reason that the Jedi Council would be concerned about these murders. At the time of the High Republic, Yoda is a Grand Master of the Jedi Order. As such, Yoda should be concerned and thus involved with The Acolyte's story if enough members of the Order fall victim to Mae's assassination attempts. Through this, Yoda could appear in The Acolyte, if not in the story of season 1, then in the often hinted-at continuation of Star Wars' High Republic show.
The Acolyte will premiere on June 4 exclusively on Disney+.
