Constellation Season 2: Cancelation & Everything We Know
Warning! This Post Contains Spoilers For Constellation Season 1
Summary "Constellation" season 1 ended with the potential for continuation, but season 2 on Apple TV+ has been canceled.
Series creator Peter Harness expressed interest in season 2 and already has ideas for a continued storyline.
The cast for season 2 would likely include the original main characters, with the potential for unexpected returns due to the multiverse concept.
Apple TV+'s mind-bending science fiction series Constellation left a lot of unanswered questions in its season 1 finale, but the show was canceled before season 2. Created by Peter Harness from an idea by Sean Jablonski, Constellation concerns an astronaut named Jo who, following an accident in space, returns to Earth to find that aspects of her life are changed or missing. Incorporating heady sci-fi elements like parallel universes and quantum mechanics into its gripping personal drama, the series continues Apple TV+'s successful foray into the genre.
Greeted with decent praise when the show debuted, Constellation maintained a respectable 71% Rotten Tomatoes score across its 8-episode first season. Though it had all the hallmarks of a limited series, the ending of Constellation season 1 made it abundantly clear that things had only just begun for the lone survivor of the ISS disaster, and Jo's story was far from over. As previous series like Lost has proven, the complicated mechanics of Constellation's plot could have allowed for the Apple original series to blossom into an ongoing streaming hit.

no conclusion is likely to come and no Apple TV+ castoff has ever been rescued by another streamer or network.
Though Apple TV+ has had quite a few hits on their hands, they have also produced a slew of shows that don't really move the needle. Along those line, Apple TV+ opted to cancel Constellation before its second season in May 2024. The decision hasn't been explained by Apple, and though viewership numbers are being kept firmly under wraps, they are the most likely culprit. Unfortunately for the few who did get invested in Constellation's various twists and turns, no conclusion is likely to come and no Apple TV+ castoff has ever been rescued by another streamer or network.
Constellation season 1 aired its eighth and last episode on March 27, 2024.
Constellation Season 2 Cast
Anyone Could Return At Any Time
Close
The multiversal nature of Constellation means that any character could have returned at any moment, and they likely would have if the show was green-lit for season 2. However, there are a few characters who would certainly have been on hand to lead the show, namely Noomi Rapace's beleaguered astronaut "Jo" Ericsson, as it was her story from the very beginning. Jonathan Banks would also likely return in his dual role as Henry and Bud Caldera, and Irena's sudden change of heart at the end of season 1 means Barbara Sukowa would need to return to continue her story.
The expected cast of Constellation season 2 included:

Constellation Season 2 Story Details
Were More Twists In Store?
Though exact plot threads will probably always remain a mystery, Constellation season 2's story was nearly limitless in its possibilities.
Nothing is confirmed about the story of Constellation season 2, but the cliffhanger ending of season 1 left a lot of questions to be answered. Just as Jo seemingly accepted her place in the alternate world she now lives in, things took a shocking turn when the formerly deceased version of Jo suddenly appeared on the ISS and intended to make contact. Season 2 would have needed to address how the appearance of "liminal" Jo would disrupt the living Jo's life, and it opened the door for other such "liminal" people to arrive as well.
Irena had seemingly succeeded at convincing Jo to accept her life, but she quickly took a 180 when she discovered Jo's unborn baby was a "liminal" person as well. This sparked her to reach out to other former cosmonauts to discover if they suffered from the same problems. Though exact plot threads will probably always remain a mystery, Constellation season 2's story was nearly limitless in its possibilities.
