Boruto Can Finally Bring Back A Beloved Dead Character

Summary Himawari's sudden access to Kurama's chakra in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex #8 hints at a possible return of the fan-favorite Tailed Beast.

Naruto fans left emotional by Kurama's sacrifice may find hope in the possibility of his revival due to the nature of Tailed Beasts.

Speculation mounts over the fate of Kurama and Himawari's new powers in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex's storyline.

Warning: SPOILERS for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #8

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has seen the return of beloved characters and the introduction of new ones. However, one of the franchise's most popular characters, Kurama, now has the chance to make his comeback after he was killed during part 1 of Boruto.

As the self-aware God Tree, Jura, was searching for Naruto in the Hidden Leaf Village, he discovered something that puzzled and shocked him and fans alike. While apparently tracking Naruto's jinchuriki chakra, he found his daughter instead. Chapter #8 of the series had one of the biggest plot twists yet: Himawari has access to the Nine-Tails chakra.

Himawari always displayed prodigious abilities in the series, despite her young age, and the presence of Kurama's chakra in her body explains that. Although the reason for this is still mysterious, it led the fandom to hypothesize that this was just the beginning and that the most powerful tailed beast would be making his return with a new jinchuriki.

A "jinchuriki" is the human host of a Tailed Beast. They were created as an attempt to control and weaponize the destructive power of the Tailed Beasts.

In chapter #52 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Kurama and Naruto unlocked a new iconic form called the Baryon Mode, and it managed to overpower the mighty Ishikki Otsutsuki. This new power came at a great cost, however, as it drained the lifespan of the host and the beast until one of them died, and unfortunately, Kurama sacrificed himself for Naruto's sake in one of the most emotional moments in the series.

However, it has long been established that Tailed Beasts cannot truly die. They are agglomerates of chakra, and they will be revived sometime in the future if they "die". Hagoromo confirmed this, but the fact that Baryon Mode fundamentally destroys the chakra until there is nothing left made the possibility of a revival hard. However, that has changed as any Tailed Beast can return as long as their chakra exists, and Himawari having Kurama's chakra makes it very possible that the fox will be reincarnated.

This is pure speculation, however, as the reveal of Himawari's new powers was at the end of the chapter. The next installment will hopefully elaborate further on the source of Himawari's powers, along with Kurama's fate now that Naruto's daughter wields his tremendous chakra. What is for sure, though, is that the Nine-Tails still plays a key role in the plot of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex long after his death, and his power still lives on in the child of one of his closest friends.
