When Tammy first decided to lose weight, she checked herself into a diet rehab facility where she met and married fellow patient Caleb Willingham. Tammy was able to lose enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery sooner than Caleb. She received her surgery and left the facility. Though Tammy and Caleb talked every day, the separation was difficult for them both. Sadly, 41-year-old Caleb died due to complications caused by his obesity. Now a widow, Tammy was devastated by the loss of her young husband.

It's Been An Uphill Battle

Tammy's fun with special effects wasn't limited to her use of green screen. In February, Tammy posted a TikTok in which she's singing a song with a sparkly pink heart framing her head. The caption reads, "Lol I told yall I couldn't sing lol." Tammy has always had self-awareness about her weight. She has been suffering from this issue from the moment she was born and could still be now. Weight loss is a lifelong battle, especially for someone like Tammy, who's been dealing with it since childhood. It doesn't go away overnight.
Part of the problem was that their mother had to work three jobs to support Tammy, Amy, and their other siblings. Left to fend for themselves, the children didn't always make the best nutritional choices. Tammy's grandmother helped her mother raise her and her siblings, and when the grandmother died in 1999, Tammy turned to food to fill the emotional void. This struggle was something Tammy had to overcome in order to lose weight.

Tammy has often been criticized by fans for her overuse of photo filters, but, in January, Tammy posted the best possible use of the filter effect. In the clip, the filter gave Tammy a mustache and goatee as she lip-synched to a pop song mashup of "I Can Buy Myself Flowers" by Miley Cyrus and "When I Was Your Man" by Bruno Mars. One of the best things about Tammy is that she doesn't take herself seriously, and this is a great example of that.
Tammy isn't the only Slaton who has gotten in on the weight-loss action. Her sister and fellow 1000-lb Sisters star, Amy, has lost 125 pounds since the show premiered. Not to be left out, several of their other siblings have reached impressive health and fitness milestones. Tammy and Amy's half-brother, Chris Combs, has lost 150 pounds since the series premiered, while Amanda Halterman and Misty Slaton have both had weight loss surgery.
Over the last few seasons of 1000-lb Sisters, fans have enjoyed watching the entire Slaton family embark on their incredible weight-loss journeys.

In January, Tammy posted a TikTok of herself with another wacky filter. This filter gave Tammy a pair of devil horns and a nasal septum ring, like a little devil. The sound on the video isn't available, but she definitely has a playful demeanor. Tammy is known for being quick-witted and sharp-tongued, so the devil motif isn't off base. Referencing how Tammy looks different since losing weight, one TikTok user in the comment section wrote, "Are u actually Tammy?" It will be exciting to see where Tammy's weight-loss journey will take her during 1000-lb Sisters season 6.
