Vecna is resurrected in an epic piece of Stranger Things season 5 poster art. Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the hit horror fantasy series returned for season 4 on Netflix in 2022, introducing a new villain in the form of Jamie Campbell Bower's Vecna. After wreaking havoc throughout earlier episodes, the action-packed Stranger Things season 4 finale sees Vecna finally defeated, but not before he succeeds in his plan to open a portal to the Upside Down in the center of Hawkins. Now, production is underway on season 5, which is confirmed to be the show's last.

As the wait for Stranger Things season 5 continues, artist Axel Almirón shares a poster imagining what could be to come for Vecna in the upcoming batch of episodes. Check out the art below:

The art features Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and the others standing in the field from the end of season 4, looking on as Vecna, held aloft by his long tendrils, rises from the Upside Down. To make the scene even more epic, the sky around him is filled with lightning and Demobats.

So far, very little story information about Stranger Things season 5 has been revealed, but the ending of season 4 suggests that Vecna isn't gone for good. Eleven may ultimately have defeated him with some help from her friends, but Bower's villain is not shown definitively killed. Since he remains alive and his plan technically succeeded, it's likely that he will return as a major threat once more.

If Vecna does return, it's not yet clear what form he will take. His physical form took quite a beating during his climactic fight with Eleven, so it's possible that he will somehow return through other means. Some theories have posited that Vecna could somehow use others in the Stranger Things cast of characters to do his bidding, such as Will (Noah Schnapp), who has long had a unique connection to the Upside Down, or Max, who ends season 4 brain-dead and in a coma.

Stranger Things season 5 isn't expected to release on Netflix until 2025.

What's more, it seems like Vecna likely won't be alone if and when he returns in season 5. It's possible, for example, that more Demogorgons and Demodogs remain alive, in addition to the all-powerful Mind Flayer. With his plan having succeeded in Hawkins, and with Upside Down monsters at his disposal, Vecna is poised for a major comeback in Stranger Things season 5.
