New STAR-SPIDER Costume Is a Spine-Tingling Corruption of Spider-Man's MCU Suit

Summary Star-Spider's suit is made of robotic spiders, a creepy and cool twist on the traditional Spider-Man suit.

S.P.I.D.E.R.S. can manipulate technology in terrifying ways, serving as both a suit and formidable weapon.

Star-Spider's potential as a character balances on the line between creepy and cool, offering a unique twist to the Spider-Verse.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Edge of Spider-Verse #3!Spider-Man's latest multiversal variant has a new suit that completely corrupts his MCU look in the most terrifying way possible. The Spider-Verse is home to endless potential for fans of Marvel's biggest hero. Over the years, the concept has given rise to various new versions of Spider-Man, from the birth of mainstay character Spider-Gwen to the dawning of J. Jonah Jameson's spider-persona, Headline. However, some variants aren't afraid to play into the creepier side of spider powers, and the latest spider-hero has found a way to make Spidey's MCU suit an arachnophobe's worst nightmare.

In Edge of Spider-Verse #3, the story "A Star (Spider) Is Born" by Justina Ireland and Pet Woods introduces fans to Persephone Parker, aka Star-Spider, a new Marvel cosmic spider-hero. This interstellar webhead traverses the stars and puts a stop to crime in a specialized suit that can withstand the vast emptiness of space. However, when not in use, the suit dematerializes on its own. At first, fans may recognize that it works similarly to the MCU's Iron Spider suit, which was created with nanotechnology. However, when looking closer, it's revealed that the suit is made entirely of robotic spiders.

This subversion of the MCU's nanotech suit is undeniably creepy as it gets readers imagining Star-Spider being constantly covered in tiny robot spiders.

Star-Spider's Suit Is Made Of S.P.I.D.E.R.S.

Tiny Nanotech Arachnids Cover Persephone Parker to Form Her Suit

The thought of millions of these spider-like robots crawling across her body every time she wants to suit up is incredibly scary, but pretty cool at the same time.

What's interesting about this new spider suit is how the technology behind it works. S.P.I.D.E.R.S, which is short for "Sanitation, Planning, Integrated Defense and Engineering Robots," essentially function similarly to the microbots from Big Hero 6. They can "patch holes and create new structures" to keep the station safe. However, they also serve a double purpose as Persephone's spider-suit, making it much creepier than the Iron Spider nanotech suit Peter wears in the MCU. The thought of millions of these spider-like robots crawling across her body every time she wants to suit up is incredibly scary, but pretty cool at the same time.

S.P.I.D.E.R.S. Can Manipulate Technology in the Creepiest Way

The S.P.I.D.E.R.S. are also capable of doing so much more than repairs and giving Persephone a cool new look, though. They can also be deployed manually by Star-Spider to interfere with technology on command. During a high-speed hovercar chase at the beginning of the story, Star-Spider attaches herself to the criminal's vehicle and sends some of these terrifying creations inside. They completely cover the driver and his controls, holding him in place while the Defense Force arrives.

This is a terrifying way to deal with criminals, but it also works as an essential method to combat high-tech usage in Marvel's cosmic universe. Since Star-Spider can't break into the car because of the risk of ejecting the passenger into space, she has to come up with a smarter way to handle the solution. In this case, the answer is an army of robot spiders that are capable of bringing the car to a halt while backup arrives, similar to how the MCU's Spider-Man used nanotech from his suit absorbed by Doctor Octopus to keep him in check.

Star-Spider has the potential to be one of the creepiest characters in the Spider-Verse since Spiders-Man, a Spider-Man variant made up of hundreds of sentient spiders that believe they're Peter Parker. However, she has the potential to be one of the coolest, as well. Despite the suit being a bit uncomfortable to see for people that have a fear of spiders, this take on Spider-Man's MCU suit is interesting as it brings the Iron Spider suit in line with his namesake.
