Summary Song Kang has proven his versatility across various genres, excelling in both romantic dramas like Love Alarm and intense horror like Sweet Home.
Song Kang's dedication to portraying characters is unmatched, evident in his commitment to roles like taking ballet lessons for Navillera.
My Demon stands out as Song Kang's most acclaimed work, showcasing his strong chemistry with Kim Yoo-jung and their award-winning performances.
Within recent years, Song Kang has risen in popularity after starring in Netflix K-dramas, many of which place Song Kang in romantic relationships. While one of Song Kang's more popular K-dramas, Sweet Home, includes action and horror, Song Kang possesses the range and ability to take on a variety of genres, including drama and romance. As Song Kang was beginning to rise in popularity, he starred in Netflix's Love Alarm, which saw his character caught up in a love triangle with a girl he and his friend had feelings for. Song Kang has a characteristic charm to him that helps draw audiences toward his work, however, he doesn't solely rely on his allure.
Song Kang's dedication to his performances is evident in his work on-screen, but off-screen, he puts in the effort to ensure a well-executed portrayal of his characters. This is most apparent in the six-month period in which Song Kang took ballet lessons for the K-drama, Navillera. Even though Song Kang has starred as a romantic protagonist in many K-dramas, his most acclaimed work is My Demon. Song Kang stars in My Demon alongside Kim Yoo-jung in an entertaining series, elevated by their irresistible chemistry. Song Kang's other romance partners fluctuate in strength, but they each highlight Song Kang's talent and ability to mesh with other actors.

4 Lee Shi-woo & Jin Ha-kyung (Forecasting Love And Weather)
Played by Song Kang and Park Min-young
Combining the forces of nature and love, Forecasting Love and Weather follows Lee Shi-woo (Song Kang) and Jin Ha-kyung (Park Min-young) after they cross paths in unexpected ways while working at a meteorology service. Staying in line with a popular K-drama trope of love in the workplace, Forecasting Love and Weather sees Song Kang and Park Min-young's characters deal with the struggles that come with starting a relationship with a co-worker. Both Park Min-young and Song Kang have been praised for their work in other K-dramas, but the combination of their talents isn't enough to make the series work.
After the first few episodes of Forecasting Love and Weather, critics and audiences felt the plot, including the series' main love story, began to drag. When Forecasting Love and Weather begins, Shi-woo and Ha-kyung are in opposing places. H-kyung is an established forecaster and settled into a marriage, whereas Shi-woo is younger and more eager for work. Their contrasting places in life and the way they find one another is intriguing, but occurs within the first few episodes, leaving much of the romantic tension to perish. Song Kang and Park Min-young's chemistry is undeniable, but there are stronger couples in Song Kang's other projects.
3 Hwang Sun-oh & Kim Jo-jo (Love Alarm)
Played by Song Kang and Kim So-hyun
The romance in Love Alarm differs greatly from other K-dramas starring Song Kang and that's what saves it from ranking last, despite the relationship itself being lackluster at times. In Love Alarm, a romance blooms between Kim Jo-jo (Kim So-hyun) and Song Kang's Hwang Sun-oh. However, their romance is not without complications. A third person becomes involved in the K-drama's love triangle when Sun-oh's friend, Lee Hye-yeong (Jung Ga-ram) develops feelings for Jo-jo as well. The overlapping feelings of yearning and love among the trio are discovered through the use of technology and play into the series' larger themes of friendship and love.
Love Alarm's plot involves an app in which users can detect individuals nearby who have feelings for them. The characters tend to become over-reliant on the app, resulting in weak character arcs. However, it's this feature that further differentiates the romance in Love Alarm from other K-dramas in Song Kang's career. In addition to the themes of romance, Love Alarm also touches upon societal issues that come with the increased use of technology, particularly social media. Still, the romance itself varies in its compelling nature. Many of the weaker moments appear in Love Alarm season 2 and make the relationships increasingly more difficult for audiences to become invested in.
2 Park Jae-eon & Yoo Na-bi (Nevertheless)
Played by Song Kang and Han So-hee
Based on the popular webtoon under the same name, Nevertheless tells the story of two individuals who are unwilling to allow themselves to fall in love. Yoo Na-bi (Han So-hee) is scarred from a previous relationship that ended badly and Park Jae-eon, played by Song Kang, prefers flirting to commitment, as he feels the latter is too much to deal with. The differing personalities of Nevertheless' leads help set up the series' main love story. Throughout Nevertheless, Na-bi and Jae-eon grow closer over 10 episodes. The two start in a friends-with-benefits situation, working their way through their dim outlooks on love. Song Kang and Han So-hee have impressive chemistry and help bring a realistic approach to the K-drama.
The characters in Nevertheless, including its leads, are flawed and complicated, leading many viewers to find difficulty in rooting for their love. However, it's this unabashed and realistic depiction of college students in love that makes Nevertheless a rarity in K-dramas. Additionally, an outcome of Na-bi and Jae-eon's relationship is the slow burn that takes place as the two decide if they are ready to open themselves up to love. Though this slower pace could frustrate some audiences, Song Kang and Han So-hee's performances are captivating enough to keep audiences engaged. This includes their work in the K-drama's steamy moments that bring a fresh and evolved approach to the genre.

1 Jeong Gu-won & Do Do-hee (My Demon)
Played by Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung
As fans of Song Kang might've expected, the best K-drama couple in his filmography is in My Demon. The K-drama tells of the unlikely coupling of Song Kang's Jeong Gu-won and Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo-jung). Gu-won is a 200-year-old demon who finds himself in a contract marriage with Kim Yoo-jung's heiress character. The chemistry between Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung is strong and clear to see. Though Gu-won is the devil, Song Kang's portrayal includes bits of humor and, paired with Do-hee's self-assured personality, the dynamic between the two is just as endearing as it is entertaining.
When it comes to accolades, Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung won an SBS Drama Award in the Best Couple category, along with the two actors winning individual awards for their performances. Many of the supporting characters and storylines in My Demon don't make as strong of an impact in the overall series, so there's a lot of pressure on Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung as the leads, but they handle this with expertise. My Demon includes many beloved traits found in other K-dramas, but it's Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung's chemistry and talent that make My Demon a standout series and one of the best couples in Song Kang's filmography.
