A Fan-Favorite PS1 Franchise May Be Hitting Xbox Game Pass Soon
Summary Spyro Reignited Trilogy could be coming to Xbox Game Pass soon, based on its new PC Microsoft Store listing.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft made the inclusion of the Spyro series in the Xbox Game Pass subscription seem inevitable.
Fans are excited about the potential arrival of other popular Activision-owned franchises like Call of Duty and Crash Bandicoot on Xbox Game Pass soon.
A fan-favorite PlayStation 1 franchise, Spyro the Dragon, may be coming to Xbox Game Pass soon, according to recent speculation. Insomniac Games' original trilogy of Spyro titles was hugely popular upon its release between 1998 and 2000, with the titles being exclusive to the original PlayStation console. These titles underwent the remake treatment, developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision, and were released across all platforms in 2018 as the Spyro Reignited Trilogy bundle.
As reported by Comicbook, Klobrille - an X account that provides coverage on all Xbox first-party studios - has pointed out that Spyro Reignited Trilogy has been added to the Microsoft Store for PC recently, alongside Xbox achievements.
Klobrille notes that this is usually a strong indicator that a Game Pass release is coming soon.
Spyro's Game Pass Arrival Seemed Inevitable
Following Microsoft's Acquisition Of Activision Blizzard
While the Sypro series was originally produced by Universal Interactive - who later became known as Vivendi Games - Activision Blizzard acquired the publishing rights in 2008 after merging with Vivendi, with the Reignited Trilogy's developers Toys for Bob being a subsidiary of Activision before going independent in February 2024 and essentially dashing any rumors of a Spyro 4 being in the works. Therefore, it seemed inevitable that titles such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy would be included as part of the Game Pass subscription once Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard.
It was always clear that Xbox would add Activision-owned titles to its subscription, with many hoping for the arrival of the Call of Duty series or another previously PlayStation-exclusive franchise, Crash Bandicoot in the near future. Comments below Klobrille's post indicate that many believed this would be announced in June as part of the next major Xbox showcase, but the potential arrival of Spyro Reignited Trilogy suggests that it could be a lot sooner.
With how well-received Toys for Bob's remakes were, Game Pass subscribers have plenty to look forward to if they do get added to the roster soon. Normally, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy costs $39.99 when not on sale, but it does contain three full games, each with great visual and gameplay upgrades that don't lose any of the charm of the original titles.
