Warning! Preview pages ahead for Green Lantern: War Journal #8!Even Batman would have to praise a contingency plan created by the one Green Lantern who Bruce truly can't stand. John Stewart is missing and newbie Lantern Caolán Shepherd is determined to find him. But before he sets out, he's going to need to get through one unexpected backup plan created by a crafty Green Lantern.
In a preview for Green Lantern: War Journal #8 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Montos, Green Lantern Shepherd arrives at Guy Gardner's dingy Baltimore apartment. Shepherd rings the doorbell, triggering a trap that drags the Green Lantern inside the apartment and constructs an interrogation room.

The interrogation room is intimidating, loaded with weapons and cameras. Shepherd remotely speaks with Guy, who tries to brush off the young Lantern. However, once Shepherd informs Gardner that John is missing, Guy deconstructs the interrogation room and directs Shepherd to some equipment Guy has stashed that can get Shepherd into space to find John.
Green Lantern Guy Gardner Created a Construct Interrogation Room Trap
Shepherd came to the Prime DC Universe to help John Stewart defeat the terrifying undead army, the Radiant Dead. After constructing a new Power Ring, the duo hit the Radiant Dead hard and turned the table on the zombified forces. They even faced off with the Radiant Dead's leader, the Revenant Queen. Unfortunately, the Queen revealed she was channeling the power of the Old God Olgrun, and kidnapped John. Now Stewart is caught in the pull of a terrifying celestial body known as the Dark Star of Fenn while Shepherd is forced to find any Green Lantern assistance he can.
When it comes to Green Lanterns and their constructs, Guy's innovations don't often rank very high. Compared to John or Kyle Rayner, Gardner's constructs are usually pretty rudimentary (though he does have a willpower that far exceeds most other Lanterns). However, it looks like Guy has been working on his constructs and he's fashioned a trap that someone like Batman would have to give Guy praise for. Guy's system can detect powerful strangers and is even prepared to handle them if they come a-knockin with evil intent. For all of the Green Lantern's faults, he's made something quite impressive.
Batman Would Have to Approve of Green Lantern's New System
Batman isn't usually a fan of Green Lanterns, but he has a special distaste for Guy (and after the infamous 'one punch', the feeling is mutual). But Bruce generally respects those who think ahead and plan things out. It's a Green Lantern's tendency to go headfirst into battle without a plan. But Guy shows a surprising level of strategic thinking in his new contingency plan. For all the problems they've had in the past, Batman would almost certainly compliment his most disliked Green Lantern rival for his latest and most creative construct yet.
