Pokémon GO: Best Team To Use For The Jungle Cup (Great League)

Pokémon GO has launched its latest event, The Jungle Cup, as part of the GO Battle League. While there have been many different events for trainers looking to battle each other over the years, The Jungle Cup is like no other. With an exciting set of eligibility criteria, you must know the best team to use going into The Jungle Cup to have a chance at regularly winning matches.

The Jungle Cup can be entered until April 19th 2024, as part of the GO Battle League. The rewards at the end of each set are the same as with any other event, but you will receive four times the amount of Stardust as normal after every battle. You will also progress through the different ranks in the GO Battle League while participating in the Jungle Cup. While battling Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni provides a tough test, PvP Go Battle League events are much harder.

How To Start The Jungle Cup

Jungle Cup Eligibility

Unlike most GO Battle League events in Pokémon GO, several eligibility criteria make the event unique. Firstly, like all Great League events, all three Pokémon you select need to be below 1,500 CP, automatically ruling out most of the strongest creatures. Despite this, many can be caught at a low CP and then powered- up with Candies to make them the perfect level for this event.

Only eight types of Pokémon can be used in The Jungle Cup, leaving out many of the most common types used in the Great League, such as Water, Fire, and Fairy. However, despite this, you can still use dual types that have one eligible element, so strong Steel-types such as Steelix and Skarmory can both still be used.

Only Normal-, Grass-, Electric-, Poison-, Ground-, Flying-, Bug- and Dark- type Pokémon are eligible.

Finally, two of the most powerful Great League Pokémon combinations, Gligar and Galarian Stunfisk, are also ineligible. The criteria mean you will see many teams and individual Pokémon that you never normally would face off against in the GO Battle League.

The Best Team For The Jungle Cup

Best Team Combination

For The Jungle Cup, it is important to use a team of Pokémon that complement each other and are super-effective against a wide variety of opponents. If needed, you can switch to a different one with an advantage.

According to PvPoke, the best ranked Pokémon for the event by far are Steel- and Ground-type Steelix.

While not having the strongest attack stats in Pokémon GO, Steelix has great defensive stats and is very bulky, which provides an advantage in PvP. It is strong against many other meta types in the regular Great League, and the changes for the Jungle Cup only enhance this. In addition, two of Steelix's weaknesses, Fighting and Fire, will rarely come up in The Jungle Cup due to the eligibility required.

A great partner for Steelix is Normal-type Vigoroth. The Generation 3 Pokémon is one of a number of Normal- types that perform well across the GO Battle League. Its only weakness is that it's against Fighting-types. Along with this combination of Pokémon, it is incredibly versatile and will fit well into almost any line-up in The Jungle Cup.

For a final choice, the highest-ranked Pokémon is Clodsire. While sharing one type of element with Steelix, it has access to one of the most vital moves in any Great League event: Mud Shot. The Ground-type Fast Charge attack is fantastic for quickly taking out the opposition's shields, allowing Steelix or Vigoroth to come in with strong Charged Moves. With Mud Shot, Clodsire is the perfect choice to lead in The Jungle Cup.

Alternative Pokémon For All Teams In The Jungle Cup

While the above three of the strongest Pokémon work together well in a team for The Jungle Cup, there are a number of great alternatives. These are useful if you find yourself running into the same opponents all the time or if you do not have a high IV version of the best Pokémon. Grass- and Ice-type Abomasnow is one of the best alternate options to go with Steelix, as it is resistant to both Ground- and Water- types.

Strong Water- types are always a good option in the Great League, including The Jungle Cup, and the best one is Quagsire. It is super-effective against a number of the other meta Pokémon in this event and is another lead choice if you are running into Steel- or Poison- types first up.

Skarmory is also a great swap for Steelix if you have a higher IV version of the strong Steel- and Flying-type. Elsewhere, Mandibuzz, regular Stunfisk, and Guzzlord can all work in the majority of combinations and perform well against certain lineups.

The Jungle Cup is a great addition to the GO Battle League, allowing players to use a wide variety of Pokémon that aren't always useable in the normal Great League. While many Pokémon are great in the event, the best team consisting of Steelix, Vigoroth, and Clodsire provides a balanced line-up in The Jungle Cup in Pokémon GO.
