10 Scariest Monsters In Content Warning, Ranked
Summary Content Warning's monster roster features unique mechanics, varying in danger and horror levels.
The purpose of capturing monsters on camera is to go viral, but some monsters are easy to catch than others.
Each monster has distinct abilities and designs.
Despite being released on Steam on April Fools' Day, the enemies of Content Warning are no joke. Its monster roster is impressive for an indie horror title, with each feeling unique in its mechanics and design. Because of this, the many monsters of Content Warning vary in both levels of danger and horror, with some being oddly cute and endearing while others stand proudly as nightmare fuel, able to keep even the bravest awake at night.
Following in the same vein as titles like Phasmophobia, Content Warning is a horror title all about catching whatever the players find on camera, but the purpose isn't to prove that these monstrosities exist. No, these brave souls are actually looking to go viral, and some of these monsters would be very capable of making footage famous if they were real. Some, however, would cause most to avert their eyes, so imagine how being right in front of them would feel.

10 Slurper Hides In Plain Sight
A Star-Shaped Abomination
Close
The Slurper takes on the form of a malformed starfish with a barnacle-like mouth. Thanks to being largely stationary, these creatures are not the most frightening, especially if players keep their eyes on the ceiling, where Slurpers dwell. Still, in the dark, they can be hard to see, and any who mindlessly wander can quickly find themselves at the mercy of these starfish-like monsters.
Slurpers are able to grapple foes with a lure, a very difficult-to-see rope. Although a player can free themselves by throwing something at the monster, it is hard to do when playing solo. Of course, if a friend is on hand, then getting free is simpler, but the sudden fright of abruptly being hoisted up, especially when caught running from another monster, can give some of Hollywood's jumpscares a run for their money.
9 Ear Follows Your Sound
It Hears You Coming
Close
The Ear is relatively harmless in comparison to the other monsters in Content Warning, since they rely on sound to know where to go. If one does approach a player, then simply shouting loudly through a microphone is enough to dissuade them. They don't do much damage either, but its deadliness isn't the reason why it is considered scary.
The Ear's malformed design and uncanny movement with its human hand-like feet is what makes it so creepy. It lurks around with a giant ear for a face, which is unsettling enough in and of itself, but its gangly limbs aid in making its strides feel so unnatural. The thought of trying not to make the slightest noise around this creature aids in the surrounding horror atmosphere, which likely does more for it than its actual attacks.
Because it is easy to scare off, the Ear is a good creature to capture on camera to get more views. If shouting at a mic isn't desirable, consider using a Shock Stick instead.
8 Dog, But Don't Pet It
This One Is Not A Good Boy
Close
Despite its smiley face being kind of cute and endearing, the Dog is a dangerous enemy. It is a robot that moves on all fours, as if a mockery of actual dogs, with a red sensor and gun on its back. It looks around for the player, ready to shoot them into oblivion, all with that friendly smile on its robotic face. It makes one think they are in a Terminator movie whenever this monster is spawned.
Since Content Warning is largely monochromatic, the sudden introduction of the Dog's red light emphasizes the threat it poses. Although it can be stunned with a Shock Stick and knocked to the ground, its gun will continue to shoot, and the speed of its bullets makes it hard to duck for cover. Given how deadly it is, it is a fearful monster, but there's something about that smiley face that keeps it from being the worst this game has to offer.
7 Spider Casts Its Web
Arachnophobes Beware
Close
Anything made in the horror genre is immediately scarier with a type of spider, and Content Warning is no exception. The Spider is a huge arachnid that acts like someone would expect. It loiters around in the dark, seeking to capture the players in its web before biting them several times until they are dead. Although its damage is not too deadly, being caught in a web while running away from another monster is a death sentence.
For those suffering from arachnophobia, the Spider is likely the scariest monster in the game. It is a little generic in design, since it is just a big spider, but the game's artstyle does well to make it fearful to look at. Arachnophobia in video games is something that some have struggled with throughout the years, given that one of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's most famous mods is one that replaces spiders with t-posing bears.

6 Weeping AKA The Iron Maiden
One Of Doctor Who's Creepiest Ideas
Close
Sometimes called the Iron Maiden, the Weeping seems to take inspiration from one of Doctor Who's most terrifying monsters, the Weeping Angels, which is where the name most likely comes from. It even moves like the Weeping Angels, and it remains stationary when looked at, only moving when a player looks away. The concept was frightening in Doctor Who, just as it is here.
Its visual design is reminiscent of the ancient Iron Maiden torture device, which has a daunting silhouette and captures players just like the old device did. If captured, a player must be saved by other players as they enter a code on a screen presented by the Weeping. If a player is solo, being captured here will result in death since the person captured cannot enter the code to free themselves.
Once a player is freed from its clutches, the Weeping is no longer a threat. Its expression will even change to a happier one.
5 Knifo The Killer Kid
Creepy Children Are The Worst
Close
The horror movie trope about creepy, murderous children exists for a reason. It's terrifying, and Knifo is Content Warning's version of that trope. Its visual design alone does not make it the most frightening, appearing as a cartoon-like ghost or a child wearing a bedsheet at Halloween while wielding a large kitchen knife. What ties the design together and makes it an unsettling one is Knifo's audio.
Whenever Knifo spawns, the player will hear child-like giggling. This giggling continues should the monster manage to stab a player before running away, solidifying its use of the "evil child" horror trope. It is also surprisingly fast and will try to herd players into other monsters as it chases them. Luckily, this means that the Knifo isn't designed to kill players instantly, instead requiring a few stabs to end their lives.
4 Snatcho Hunts In The Dark
It Stalks In The Shadows
Close
Snatcho's visual design is one of Content Warning's creepiest. Its long, lanky limbs and uncanny movements are harrowing to behold, but its aesthetics are one facet of its terrifying design. Snatcho keeps to the shadows, and because it has dark textures, it is very hard to make out unless a torch is being shone on it. Thankfully, the light also keeps the monster at bay, causing it to flee.
This specific monster acts as a real-life predator, stalking the players from the darkness. It is fast and latches onto players, dragging them away while dealing decent damage over time. It will not let the player go unless another shines a light on it, and its hunter-like instincts, along with its ability to hide from players, makes it an anxiety-fueling creature that has people constantly looking over their shoulder.
3 Barnacle Ball Spins Like A Torrent
A Monster Regurgitated From The Sea
Close
As designs in Content Warning go, the Barnacle Ball is perhaps one of the game's strangest. As the name suggests, it is a mass of barnacles with tentacles, and its visual design is not the scariest around, even if it is large. This is a red herring, however, as this ball of undersea mass is one of the game's most versatile killers, and few can escape a close encounter with their lives.
It can slap a foe with its tentacles or spit at it from afar to deal damage over time. If that wasn't enough, it can also spin to create an air current that pulls players toward it to be in range of its melee attacks. This current can also launch players into the air, dealing fall damage. Essentially, the Barnacle Ball is a wandering arsenal with many methods to end a player's stream, but it is slow, so it can be outrun, provided a player isn't caught in its air current.
If desperate to get away from the Barnacle Ball, consider using the Shock Stick to stun it. This should give a player enough time to get away.
2 Big Slap Is Far Scarier Than It Sounds
Who Knew An Open Palm Could Be So Terrifying?
Close
The Big Slap certainly earns its name. It is one of the game's largest creatures, doubling players in size, which makes it imposing in and of itself, and it slaps people. Although the name is somewhat whimsical, there is nothing whimsical about this freak of nature. At a distance, the Big Slap will appear as a giant silhouette, looming in the back. Its malformed body, along with its size, makes it quite a sight.
This monster is far faster than one would expect from a creature this size, and it hits hard. Being spotted by it almost guarantees death, with its slap dealing around half health damage, while its leap attack can instantly kill players. One of the few methods to survive an encounter with the Big Slap is to run, hide, and hope, which does make it seem like a villain from a classic slasher flick.

1 Flicker Is The Deadliest There Is
Red Means Danger
Close
The Flicker is Content Warning's most dangerous monster. It is somewhat reminiscent of Slender Man with its long limbs and skeletal design, but that isn't what makes it horrifying. Seeing the Flicker practically spells death for players, and the only signal for it is the flickering of light bulbs (which is likely where it gets its name). It will cause the player's screen to glitch and will light up the screen with a red glow from its eye.
Its design seems to have something Lovecraftian about it. It looks somewhat like a squid or jellyfish with a harpoon protruding from its head, making it reminiscent of eldritch nightmares from the deep sea. The only way to survive the Flicker is to look out for flickering light bulbs and to keep eyes on the ground. No tool helps against this monster, but thankfully its appearance in Content Warning is rare.
