Mark Grayson's superhero journey would provide a mature storyline with plenty of action that's perfect for gaming.

A new AAA Invincible game is in the works at Skybound Entertainment. Since Skybound's announcement in 2022, there have been several Invincible games over the years, largely due to the popularity of the Amazon Prime animated series, these have consisted of a Fortnite raid called Doc Seismic Attacks, in which players assumed control of Cecil Stedman’s elite GDA Agents with a party of up to six players, Ubisoft's idle squad mobile RPG, Guarding the Globe, and the visual novel, Adam Eve, but fans have still been vocal in their desire for a full AAA title in the same vein as Marvel's Spider-Man that focuses on Invincible himself, Mark Grayson.

According to Skybound's Republic page - where the company is currently seeking investments and has amassed over $450,000 at the time of writing - the company is building a AAA studio of over 30 gaming veterans from EA, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Amazon Games, and more led by Head of Games Publishing, Chris Paulson (formerly of Activision Blizzard), and EVP of Games Production, Patrick Gilmore (formerly of Amazon Games). The studio's intent is to develop "high octane games with meticulous development and incredible production value" based on Skybound's popular IPs such as Invincible and The Walking Dead. The page then lists Invincible as its first major upcoming AAA project.

What Can Fans Expect From An Invincible Game?

There Will Be Blood

The product plan promises to keep true to what fans of the comics and TV series enjoy about the show, stating that there will be "tons of action, stunning game and character design, and of course, a healthy dose of blood." To ensure this, Skybound intends to have complete control over the IP with its creator Robert Kirkman overseeing it alongside the company's team of franchise stakeholders.

Some of Invincible's more violent scenes were recreated recently in Mortal Kombat 1 with the inclusion of Omni-Man as a playable character.

Invincible focuses on Mark Grayson, a half-human, half-Viltrumite who discovers that he has superpowers at the age of 17 due to being the son of the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man. Throughout both the comics' arc and the TV adaptation, Mark learns more about how to be a superhero himself, while discovering more about the Viltrumites and his alien heritage. It's not clear when in Mark's journey Skybound's intended AAA title will take place, but a superhero like Invincible is perfect for gaming considering his Superman-esque flight and super strength, and its mature coming-of-age story. There's bound to be an impressive cast in the game as well, both in Mark's life on Earth and exploration of space, with so many different types of alien species and other heroes and villains to interact with.

There was no mention of what kind of gameplay the Invincible game will include, or whether it's an open world like the aforementioned Marvel's Spider-Man titles, or more mission-based following Cesil's orders alongside the likes of Atom Eve or the Teen Team. With the funding rapidly increasing, and a team of developers already assembled, hopefully, Skybound will have more information to share surrounding its vision and story for the game soon.
