Baldur's Gate 3 Fan Makes One Of The Best Attacks Even Stronger

Summary Stay Hidden After Sneak Attack with a new mod for a more powerful Rogue.

Being able to stay hidden after using Sneak Attack can be a massive power boost.

An extra 1d6 damage can stack up quickly, making fights in Baldur's Gate 3 easier.

Baldur's Gate 3 may offer players an assortment of abilities and tools to destroy their enemies but a Rogue skill is easily one of the best in the game and one dedicated fan just made it even stronger. Unlocked as early as Level 1, the Sneak Attack skill allows sneaker characters to deal an additional 1d6 damage to a foe they have Advantage against or when an ally is within 5ft of their target. It's remarkably simple to set up and while it's already an extremely potent way to dish out pain, a new mod has made it even better.

Posted to Nexus Mods by creator Boznaz, the aptly titled "Stay Hidden After Using Sneak Attack" mod does actually what its name implies by allowing hidden Rogues to retain their stealth even after using the ability. In the vanilla version of Baldur's Gate 3, if a character uses Sneak Attack while hidden, they'll be forced out of the stance even if no other NPCs saw they use the maneuver. The ability to remain under the radar after launching the devastating move should allow skilled Rogues to chain together several Sneak Attacks and wipe out entire squads of foes.

While a mod that allows players to remain hidden despite using Sneak Attack may seem overpowered, given that it's already one of the best abilities in Baldur's Gate 3, the add-on does offer some decent customization. One particular variant requires the Rogue to pass a Stealth Check which is based on the opponents' Passive Perception, meaning it'll be harder to pull off an effective Stealth Attack chain in certain battles. This minor requirement should still cause enough chaos that players won't be able to clear entire camps with just a single ability but it will nonetheless make the skill stronger.

It's worth noting that while an additional 1d6 of damage during an attack at Advantage may not seem like much, the number increases as Rogues grow stronger. Every two levels, an additional d6 of damage is added to Sneak Attack all the way up to Level 11, meaning players can effectively dish out 6d6 of extra damage by simply launching an attack from Hiding or when they're close to an ally. While it may be incredibly rare to roll all sixes, potentially being able to stack up 36 more damage multiple times in a single encounter could be game-changing.

Baldur's Gate 3 may be all about removing some element of players' confidence with dice rolls but, just like any mechanics, once a talented user knows how they work they can be manipulated. Retaining a Stealthed status after a Sneak Attack is just one way of optimizing combat in a game that can be especially punishing if luck is nowhere to be found. It also just makes for a fun experience that grants Rogues an extra kick that, admittedly, they probably didn't need in the first place.
