Forget Realistic Textures, There's One Way To Truly Immerse In Cyberpunk 2077
Summary Experience driving around Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 in full VR with LukeRoss' R.E.A.L VR mod for more immersive gameplay.
The mod allows players to have fluid head movements while driving, shooting or roaming Night City, enhancing the sense of scale and realism.
Even though the mod requires a regular game controller, it offers a unique glimpse into the potential for VR integration in future games.
A Cyberpunk 2077 mod lets players fully immerse themselves in the streets of Night City. CD Project Red's sci-fi RPG already had a first-person narrative for its majority, with players only able to swap to third person for driving, to make players feel like they were exploring its rich world, but a Virtual Reality mod has taken advantage of this to take things a step further.
bengeskin shared a clip of a Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod in action on Threads, showing V's perspective as they drive around different parts of Night City at different times of the day and stating "Driving around in Cyberpunk 2077 in VR is INSANE". While this may seem no different from the normal first-person view players can see when driving the car in the base game, the fact that bengeskin was able to move their head to look around instead of depending on the right stick of the controller made the experience far more fluid, and would likely come in handy in the recently implemented police chases to better keep tabs on where enemy vehicles are coming from.

LukeRoss' R.E.A.L VR Mod Is Available Via Patreon
bengeskin went on to explain that they were using the LukeRoss R.E.A.L VR Mod with Virtual Desktop streamer to sync it to a Meta Quest 3 headset. This can be found on LukeRoss' Patreon, where there are several other VR mods for other games such as Horizon Forbidden West or Far Cry New Dawn, both of which have been shown on Eurogamer's YouTube channel. Previously, LukeRoss made a VR for GTA 5, but unfortunately, Take-Two issued a DMCA takedown notice, as the company has been known to do with many mods for its games, much to the frustration of its community and so this is no longer available.
These mods seem to do an incredible job of letting players better immerse themselves in the rich environments these titles are known for. As pointed out by a user on the CD Projekt Red forums, it's worth noting in the case of Cyberpunk 2077 at least, the R.E.A.L. VR mod still requires a regular game controller and has a gun or weapon mapped to the player's facial movements, rather than the experience players have with full VR titles in which they have a specific controller in each hand that tracks their movements.
While there have been several mods to enhance textures or lighting even further to create more realism, the main thing that sets exploring Night City in VR apart is its sheer sense of scale. Looking up at Megabuildings in VR, they seem almost never-ending as they tower over players, naturally building a further sense of oppression that the residents of Night City so often talk about but can now be truly felt. With the improvements made to VR platforms over the years and the praise LukeRoss received for their mod, hopefully, CD Projekt Red could consider implementing such a feature for Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming sequel, codenamed Project Orion.
