Harry Potter Canon Already Has The Perfect Set-Up For Hogwarts Legacy 2
Summary Hogwarts Legacy's potential sequel could explore the Triwizard Tournament, offering a unique and dangerous plotline borrowed, but still different from, the one in Goblet of Fire.
The tournament, again set in the past, opens up new locations and challenges for players.
The sequel doesn't have to focus solely on the tournament, allowing for side content that expands the wizarding world and adds depth to the main plot.
Hogwarts Legacy doesn't have an officially confirmed sequel in the works, but there are many assumptions that one will be developed given the game’s success. In the event of a sequel being created, there's no shortage of potential for new plots and settings in the massive universe of Harry Potter. Plus, the canon book events already include the perfect set-up for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel.
While Voldemort provides a plotline that spans across the full Harry Potter series, each book also has a self-contained plot that's resolved by the story's end, but also plays into the overarching Voldemort plotline. Even without Voldemort's presence, one book in the series has the perfect set-up that can be implemented in the past before the books, or in the future after they take place. As such, it'd be a shame if a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy failed to include this event.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Needs To Include The Triwizard Tournament
As Featured In The Goblet Of Fire
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Dumbledore gives an explanation of the Triwizard Tournament and how it was designed as a friendly competition among the three nearby schools – Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang – while also helping the wizards of the next generation form ties with each other. During this explanation, he also mentions that the first tournament took place about seven hundred years ago. Because the Triwizard Tournament was established so long ago, Hogwarts Legacy 2 could make use of the event even if it's set in the past again.
Having the sequel set in the past and including the Triwizard Tournament brings with it unique challenges and opportunities for events that are different from those in the tournament featured in the books. Specifically, a tournament in the past had a much higher death toll, as Dumbledore mentions in his speech that it ended up being discontinued for a while because students were regularly being killed while competing. So, if it is used in a game that's set in the past, then the challenges could be far more dangerous than those that were in the book.
The Versatility Of The Triwizard Tournament
It Doesn't Have To Be The Main Event
Close
While the Triwizard Tournament itself is enough to be the centerpiece of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, it doesn't have to be the entirety of the main plot. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the tournament plays a large role, but there are other events happening at the same time, which eventually lead to a death during the tournament. The same idea could be used for a game plotline, where the tournament is ongoing, but there are shady events happening around it that lead to the main character investigating and uncovering a larger, more sinister plot.
Related 10 Hogwarts Legacy Mysteries That Are Still Unsolved Despite all the attention to detail that developers gave in Hogwarts Legacy, there are still several big questions that were left unanswered.
The chaos of students from three schools coming together is the perfect time for a villain to put a nefarious plan into action with less chance of getting noticed and stopped. Plus, students would be so focused on the tournament and excited to see what happens that they likely wouldn't question a few small things that seem off. This is especially true when it comes to the visiting students. Since they aren't used to the school, they probably wouldn't recognize if something is out of place because they wouldn't know what the school is normally like.
Additionally, the Triwizard Tournament opens up more locations that can be used in the game. Since each challenge that's part of the tournament is different, the main character can be taken to a unique location used solely for the challenge on a limited map area. Depending on how many changes the developers want to make for a sequel, the game could even be set at one of the other schools, Durmstrang or Beauxbatons. It opens up the potential to explore an entirely new school, and possibly uncover a villain who isn't targeting Hogwarts or even from Hogwarts.
Related 10 Features Hogwarts Legacy 2 Needs to Borrow From Other Games There are multiple features that’d improve the Hogwarts Legacy sequel, and there are games to borrow from that already do those features well.
The Triwizard Tournament is so versatile that it could even be included as side content instead of part of the main plotline. This lets the developers expand on the universe and let the main character take a break from the primary plot to enter a friendly competition with other wizards in an effort to be crowned the tournament's champion for that year. While it would feel less important than if it was part of the main story, the tournament would still be a fun inclusion that shows an event that only takes place every five years in the Harry Potter universe.
Other Features From The Books That Could Appear In A Hogwarts Legacy Sequel
Exploring The Vast World Of Wizards
Of course, the Triwizard Tournament isn't the only feature from the books that could be included in a Hogwarts Legacy sequel. There are plenty of elements in the wizarding world that have yet to be explored in Hogwarts Legacy, and not all of them are as large as the Triwizard Tournament. Even smaller details like exploring the history of prominent wizard families could be an interesting element to see in a sequel, and it would be even better if the main character – assuming it isn't the same character – is part of one of those families.

Since Hogwarts Legacy is set in the past and a sequel would likely be in the past as well, being part of a wizard family that isn't yet prominent, but is in the future, lets the developers explore the type of feats that bring notoriety to a family. It's never explained how the famous wizard families gained their reputation. Plus, the events that happen in these games are generally worth the characters involved being etched in history. It would be a different take that doesn't have to play a huge role in the plot, but it also expands on the universe at the same time.
There's so much potential for a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy that going through all of it could be a novel on its own. While seeing the Triwizard Tournament would be perfect for the next game, it's far from the only element in Harry Potter canon that would be an amazing and interesting plot point that can be used to build a larger story around it. But for now, there's little more than speculation about what might be covered in a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
