Katy Perry Wants Her American Idol Replacement To Be This Country Music Superstar
Summary Katy Perry thinks Jelly Roll would be a great replacement for her on American Idol, praising his mentoring skills and charming personality.
Katy hopes her replacement on American Idol will be a truth teller who has a strong sense of self and doesn't read online comments.
Hopefully, Katy will return to American Idol in the future.
Ahead of the American Idol season 22 premiere, judge Katy Perry announced that this will be her last season with the show, and she now reveals that she thinks that country music superstar Jelly Roll would be a great replacement for her on the panel alongside fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Jelly Roll appeared on American Idol season 22 as a guest mentor and judge during Hawaii Week at Disney's Aulani Resort & Spa. He mentored half of the Top 24 contestants, while pop icon Tori Kelly worked with the others. Jelly Roll was wonderful with the contestants, helping them to achieve greatness on stage.
I was convinced at anything he said.
In an interview with E!, Katy shared that she would love to see Jelly Roll take her seat at the American Idol judges' table next to Lionel and Luke. She gushed that when Jelly Roll served as a guest mentor and judge during Hawaii Week, he was "crazy." She explained, "I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything." Katy continued, "So I love him. And to have any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!"

Katy Perry’s American Idol Replacement Needs To "Tell The Truth"
Close
Katy wants her American Idol replacement to be someone who speaks their mind. She stated, "I want a truth teller," adding that she wants someone who's not afraid to tell the truth "in a graceful way." Katy also hopes that her replacement is someone who "doesn't read the comments" online. She explained, "Unfortunately, when you're a woman, and you have an opinion, or you're a boss, sometimes you're also considered a B-I-T-C-[H]…so just someone that has a strong sense of self, that listens to their intuition."
Katy is right that Jelly Roll was fantastic when he was a guest mentor and judge during American Idol Hawaii Week. He was a boisterous cheerleader for the contestants, but also a gentle critic who helped them to improve their performances in order to give them the best chance at advancing to the next round of the competition. Katy also has a knack for making the contestants feel supported, while sometimes telling them the honest truth about their performances when they need to hear it. Jelly Roll was also very fun, funny, and entertaining, so he'd fill Katy's shoes well. She's irreplaceable, but Jelly Roll might be the next best thing.
Katy's comments about ignoring hateful social media comments is also very wise. Several powerful female singers including Jennifer Lopez (who judged the show during its FOX years), Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus have been mentioned as Katy's possible American Idol replacements, and all of them have endured intense public scrutiny just as Katy has. It's important for the new judge to have thick skin so that they can make decisions and stick by them. Katy will be very missed on American Idol, but hopefully her replacement will just be keeping her seat warm until she returns to the show in the future.
American Idol season 22 airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
