A new Adventure Time RPG is currently in the making after the exceptional opening of its crowdfunding campaign. The immensely popular Cartoon Network TV show is being adapted once again, though this time it will take on the appeal of a classic role-playing game rather than a video game. The show is well-known for its colorful post-apocalyptic setting, with characters who are designed for younger viewers, as well as deeper details for adults capable of reading between the lines. Now, the animated show is coming to tabletop with a new role-playing game.

Called Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game, the new title is being developed by Cryptozoic, with the project funded on Kickstarter. The campaign, which started on April 15, has already been successfully funded. In fact, in a post by Cryptozoic on X, it has been revealed that the entire $100,000 goal was reached in a single hour.

Now, the new Adventure Time RPG is going through its stretch goals. The funding has surpassed $298,000 at the time of writing, meaning backers have already unlocked a bonus Cloth Map and a Random Encounter Deck with 40 cards. Lumpy Space Monsters, a book with 10 pages, is the final stretch goal at $300.000.

New RPG Follows D&D’s 5e Rules

Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game is a new tabletop RPG that will follow Dungeons and Dragons’ (D&D) 5th edition rules, commonly known as 5e. The many possible adventures will be set in the Land of Ooo, where the main TV show occurs. Players will be able to create the most diverse cast of characters, from the standard candy people from Princess Bubblegum’s Candy Kingdom to elementals, and even robots that were either brought to life or endured the end of times that gave birth to the new colorful world.

As seen on the Kickstarter page, the complete project is expected to be released at some point in late March 2025, when the products guaranteed by backers start to get shipped.

When obtained via the Kickstarter campaign, regardless of the chosen pledge tier, the core rule book for the RPG will come with an exclusive guide that should help players get to know the 5e rules and take them up to character creation. Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game will have a unique Adventure Twists mechanic that should change the course of the campaign with extra challenges and much more. At higher pledge tiers, backers can also get bonuses, such as an Adventure Book that can help the DM tell more stories within the Land of Ooo.
