New Star Wars: Inquisitors Series Will Follow Post-Order 66 Hunt for the Jedi

New Star Wars: Inquisitors Series Will Follow Post-Order 66 Hunt for the Jedi

Summary Star Wars announces a new Marvel Comics miniseries: Star Wars: Inquisitors.

The series will follow Darth Vader's dark side disciples as they track down a Jedi survivor of Order 66.

The time period in which this new series is set is perhaps Darth Vader's most brutal, meaning Star Wars: Inquisitors will flesh out this incredibly dark era of Star Wars lore.

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Inquisitors #1!The Inquisitors are some of the most fascinating newer additions to Star Wars lore, yet the franchise has barely scratched the surface of who they are and what level of carnage they brought upon the galaxy during the early days of the Empire. However, Star Wars is about to remedy that this summer with an all-new comic series, Star Wars: Inquisitors, which will follow these disciples of Darth Vader as they hunt down a Jedi survivor of Order 66.

StarWars.com announced on Tuesday, April 16 that Marvel Comics will be publishing the miniseries Star Wars: Inquisitors by writer Rodney Barnes and artist Ramón Rosanas beginning on July 3, 2024. The announcement included a brief plot summary along with a first-look at three covers for the first issue, and a statement from Barnes, who spoke about their excitement going into this new chapter of Star Wars canon.

Rodney Barnes: It’s such an honor to be writing the very first Inquisitors solo story! I love this time period of Star Wars lore because it’s the one I grew up on - when Darth Vader and the Empire were imposing their will on the entire galaxy. Plus, I got to create an all-new legendary Jedi with Tensu Run! Truly the best of times!

This new adventure will see the Inquisitors - under the directive of Darth Vader - hunting down a Jedi named Tensu Run, who is attempting to revitalize the Jedi Order in the hopes of taking down the Empire. As mentioned by Barnes, Tensu Run is an original Jedi making their debut in this miniseries, and it seems their existence may prove integral to early Imperial resistance in the galaxy. However, Darth Vader is hellbent on finding Tensu Run before they become too great a threat, and readers will get to see the Inquisitors dutifully carry out Darth Vader’s ruthless will.

Who Are The Inquisitors? Darth Vader’s Dark Side Strike Force, Explained

First appearance: Star Wars: Rebels

This scene from Star Wars: Rebels episode 1 marks the first appearance of the Grand Inquisitor, and the introduction of the Inquisitors as a whole. The clip was shared by the YouTube account, Harleen Quinzel.

The Inquisitors are a small team of Force-users who were trained in the dark side by Darth Vader himself. Little is known about each individual member, though the few whose backstories were fleshed out originated as Jedi. The Grand Inquisitor (leader of the Inquisitors under Darth Vader) was a Jedi Temple Guard before Order 66. Similarly, Third Sister was a Jedi Youngling and a survivor of Anakin Skywalker’s slaughter during Order 66. And - as revealed in the trailer for Star Wars: Tales of the Empire - the fallen Jedi Barriss Offee is seemingly also a member.

The Inquisitors made their debut in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels before making their live-action debut in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and their video game debut in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Given that they first appeared in 2014, the Inquisitors have only existed in Star Wars canon for 10 of the franchise’s over 40-year history. While they’ve made a number of appearances within that time, there is still a great deal to be explored, which only makes this new miniseries that much more exciting.

Star Wars: Inquisitors Will Explore Darth Vader’s Most Brutal Era

These images depict Darth Vader slaughtering Jedi in Star Wars: Legends, something Star Wars: Inquisitors could offer fans more of!

Right after Order 66, Darth Vader was perhaps the most vicious he’s ever been. Still raw over the death of Padmé and the ‘betrayal’ of the Jedi - including and especially Obi-Wan Kenobi - Darth Vader scoured the galaxy looking for Jedi to slaughter. Star Wars Legends delves into this era of Darth Vader’s life in great detail, and canon Star Wars has touched on it before as well, but this period of time was truly Darth Vader’s most villainous, yet also one of the most unexplored.

Immediately following Order 66, Darth Vader hunted Jedi, not so much for the Empire, but because he simply wanted to see them all die, and fans have barely seen the carnage he wrought within that timeframe - something Star Wars: Inquisitors has the chance to remedy.

With the Inquisitors being a relatively new addition to Star Wars canon, Darth Vader’s post-Order 66 Jedi-killing spree is given new depth. Vader was so focused on killing Jedi in the early days of the Empire that he took on dark side disciples to join him on his murderous quest across the galaxy. And now, fans will get to bear witness to this dark and brutal time in Star Wars history like they never have before with Star Wars: Inquisitors.
