Young Sheldon Season 7 Still Needs To Fix Meemaw & Sheldon’s Relationship

The Big Bang Theory Described Meemaw And Sheldon's Relationship Differently.

Meemaw's latest crisis in Young Sheldon has a profound impact on the rest of the Coopers. The gambling den wasn't only her source of income, but Georgie and Mandy's as well. With that business shuttered down, they are forced to find new employment. As previously confirmed, the newly-married Georgie and Mandy have already moved in with the McAllisters and out of the Coopers' house. One unexpected benefit of this incident, however, is Sheldon becoming involved in Young Sheldon's family arcs again. He has been separated from the clan because he spends most of his days at East Texas Tech.

Sheldon's attempt to help Meemaw is also the first step in fixing their relationship. The Big Bang Theory described them as extremely close, with the socially-inept genius having a soft spot for his maternal grandmother. Young Sheldon leaned on this during its earlier seasons, but in recent years, as the show's storytelling focus changed, their relationship has also been lost in the shuffle. While Sheldon went about his life at East Texas Tech, Meemaw started spending more time with Georgie instead. Now, they can team up once again before the prequel bows out in a month.

Related Young Sheldon Season 7 Is Running Out Of Time To Fix Its Problematic Story Focus Young Sheldon season 7's storytelling direction would have been good if the prequel wasn't in its final year. Now, it's running out of time to fix it.

With just seven episodes left, Young Sheldon is starting to tie loose narrative ends. Aside from Sheldon's graduation and move to California, as well as George's death, the writers have free reign to craft the rest of the characters' final arcs. For Meemaw, that means a definitive ending that would explain why she was so different in The Big Bang Theory, and this latest twist may be a big part of that.

Young Sheldon season 7 airs every Thursday, 8pm ET on CBS.
