Nightwing Honors Iconic DC Creators in Heart-Warming Tribute
Warning: Spoilers for Nightwing #113 ahead!
Summary Nightwing #113 brings a heartwarming character-creator reunion with Marv Wolfman, celebrating Dick Grayson's growth.
The issue pays tribute to the legacy of Wolfman & George Pérez, creators of Nightwing, The New Teen Titans, and other iconic storylines.
Nightwing #113 honors Wolfman & Pérez's contributions, showcasing the evolution of Nightwing in the 300th legacy issue.
Few DC characters are as beloved as Nightwing; even fewer have the opportunity to meet their creators. In what promises to be one of the most heartwarming comic-book moments of the year, Dick Grayson has the chance to speak with Marv Wolfman himself in celebration of 300 issues of Nightwing.
Nightwing #113 by Tom Taylor, Wolfman, Daniele Di Niculo, and Bruno Redondo is a celebration of all things Dick Grayson, as the mayor of Blüdhaven proudly presents both him and Barbara Gordon with keys to the city. The after-party for the event takes place at "Marv & George's 24-Hour Pizza" — a location that should ring a bell for longtime DC Comics fans.
Sure enough, the titular owners are cast in the likenesses of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, two industry giants who created the Nightwing mantle, and the "Marv" character is quick to share how proud he is of who Nightwing has become. This scene is made even more touching knowing it's taking place in the 300th legacy issue of the Nightwing solo series — a feat impossible with Wolfman and Pérez's shaping of the character.

Nightwing Honors DC Titans Marv Wolfman and George Pérez
Wolfman and Pérez Famously Created The New Teen Titans
Along with creating the massively influential Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wolfman and Pérez are famous for revitalizing the Teen Titans in the 1980s alongside Dick Giordano. During their stewardship of The New Teen Titans, they created roster mainstays like Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven, as well as legendary storylines such as The Judas Contract. Critically, it is during their run that Dick Grayson would finally shed his identity as Robin to become Nightwing in Tales of the Teen Titans #44, effectively making them Nightwing's creators.
Wolfman and Pérez are no strangers to appearing alongside the Teen Titans, even starring in an episode of Teen Titans, Go! (appropriately titled "Marv Wolfman and George Pérez"); however, the tribute in Nightwing #113 is made all the more significant due to Pérez's passing in 2022. While "Marv" must do the speaking for both of them, Pérez's picture is displayed prominently and unmistakably on the wall of the pizza parlor, posthumously allowing him to be with Marv and Nightwing during this landmark anniversary.

Nightwing #113 celebrates the legacy of Wolfman, Pérez, and just how much Nightwing has grown through their work.
