Zelda TOTK: All Stone Tablet Locations (Messages From An Ancient Era Quest)

Zelda TOTK: All Stone Tablet Locations (Messages From An Ancient Era Quest)

The "Messages from an Ancient Era" quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will see players running all over Hyrule looking for the stone tablets that have fallen from the sky. Behind completing at least one elemental temple, you can begin this quest to search for these mysterious tablets containing messages from long ago. You will need your Purah Pad's camera function, so pull out that tablet and go searching.

There are 12 stone tablets scattered around the region, all located in the Sky Archipelagoes portion of the map. They're written in ancient Hyrulean, which Link can't read, but thankfully Wortsworth is ready to translate. Gather pictures of all 12 tablets and return them to him to complete this quest.

How To Begin the "Messages from an Ancient Era" Quest

This quest begins during the "Regional Phenomena" story quest, requiring you to complete one or all of the four elemental temples. After you complete the Wind, Lightning, Fire, or Water Temple in Zelda TOTK, head back to Lookout Landing, where a bunch of villagers will be gathered around a fallen stone tablet. Talk to Wortsworth to learn more.

He will tell you that these tablets are written in ancient Hyrulean and that he needs you to find the rest before he can tell you exactly what they say. Once you've found them all, return to Wortsworth in Kakiriko Village with pictures. He will explain to you what they say and the lore involved in each one, and then display them nearby so you can return to them anytime.

Find All 12 Stone Tablets

The tablet in Lookout Landing doesn't count as one of the twelve, so there's no need to take a picture of it here. Instead, you will need to find the other 12 tablets. Each tablet rests on a separate star-shaped island floating in the skies of Hyrule; if you haven't completed the Wind Temple or gained the Glide armor, you should do that first.

Once ready to search, head to the following locations to find the stone tablets. You can see each island on the Sky portion of the map in the approximate locations above. If you need help, follow along to get step-by-step guides to each tablet's location. Follow the written guide, or use Austin John Plays' YouTube video above.

Stone Tablet 1

Using the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower, fast travel to the northwest corner of the map in the Hebra region, west of the mountains. Boost up into the air with the Paraglider, then fly towards the islands above the West Hebra Sky Archipelago to continue to boost yourself up. A small, square-shaped island should be nearby; use the balloon and fire emitter on it to reach the main island.

This island is home to the Ijo-o Shrine; you will be in the right place if you see it. A mechanism in the island's center will allow you to make your way higher. Once you're up, head north and then drop down, using the paraglider in Zelda: TOTK, to the small star-shaped island you see below. Snap a picture and keep moving.

If you're doing it right, the quest marker should show up in your camera view. If not, the picture won't count towards quest completion.

Stone Tablet 2

Use the Pikida Stonegrove Skyview Tower to get yourself close, then head upwards again into the sky. Glide towards the Taninuod Shrine to the north and land on the main island. Once you land, you will see a launching mechanism in the island's center.

This mechanism is already pointed in the right direction, so use it to boost Link towards the star-shaped island in the distance. Once you land, head towards the stone tablet and take another picture. Remember to look for the quest icon in your camera's vision.

Stone Tablet 3

This time, fast travel to the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower. From the tower, you will immediately see the small island to the west. Once you walk to the tablet, the island will fall through the sky, finally landing in the Depths. Follow it down and snap your picture.

Stone Tablet 4

This next tablet is located south of the Akkala Highlands; use the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower to get up into the air. You won't need to be any higher than this, so look out and land on the closest island you can see. The one you're looking for will house Flux Construct II, which you can ignore in favor of moving on.

One of the Zonai devices on this island is a flying device, which you can use to make your way to the star-shaped island you can see on your map. Attach some rockets and enough batteries to get you where you're going. Be aware that more fans use more batteries, so try not to attach more than four fans to save some energy. Snap your picture and move on to the next tablet.

Stone Tablet 5

Head above the South Eldin Sky Archipelago using the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower. Make it to the main island of the Archipelago, home to the Kadaunar Shrine. This island also houses another pushing mechanism, again already facing the right direction. Get pushed and glide towards your fifth picture.

Stone Tablet 6

This tablet is located in the Lanayru Sky Archipelago, which can be best reached via the Upland Zorana Skyview Tower. Heading south, you will quickly spot the island you're looking for. This one is an easy glide; take the photo and keep moving.

Stone Tablet 7

From the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower, Paraglide towards one of the medium islands near the North Gerudo Sky Archipelago tower. You should see the star-shaped island to the right of the island. Hop down and Paraglide towards the island for your seventh picture.

Stone Tablet 8

This tablet is one of the trickier ones. It's located south of the East Gerudo Chasm and near the South Lomei Labyrinth. If you have a lot of stamina, you can glide right from the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower, but if not, you have other options.

If you've already gotten access to the sky portion of the South Lomei Labyrinth, you can fast travel there and then glide down to the star-shaped island you're looking for. If you don't have access to the Labyrinth yet, boost your stamina and stamina dishes and use the Skyview Tower spot instead. Either way, snap your picture and move to the next tablet once you arrive.

Stone Tablet 9

You will need to use the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower again for this tablet, so travel here and boost up to the East Gerudo Sky Archipelago. Once you're up there, land on the big islands in the region's center. You will find a mechanism on the big island and, using the map, aim it towards the star-shaped island.

Launch yourself towards the island. Don't worry too much about precision; as long as you're looking in the right general direction, you should be able to glide the rest of the way to the tablet. Take a picture here.

Stone Tablet 10

Unlike the previous location, this tablet is a bit easier to find. Using the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower, you only have to glide/fall southwest down to the island. If you're unsure where you're going, use your map to find the island and snap your picture.

Stone Tablet 11

Using the Rabella Wetlands Sky Tower, head towards East Necluda and lift yourself upwards. There's a large circle island with a pool of water in its center; this is your goal. Once you get there, you must build a balloon using the default Zonai schematic or try out this crazy launching Zonai device in Zelda: TOTK. All you need to do is launch yourself high enough to get above the island and then glide down to the eleventh tablet.

Stone Tablet 12

For the final tablet, you will need to head west of Hateno Bay towards the Necluda Sea. Travel to the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and boost yourself up. You will be able to see the star-shaped island in the distance.

All you need to do is glide there, either with your incredible stamina reserves or by using the ability you gained, beating the Wind Temple boss to push you forward. Take your picture and return to Kakiriko Village to report to Wortsworth.

Messages From An Ancient Era Quest Rewards

Once you head back and talk to Wortsworth, he will read everything they say to you. He will tell you the story of ancient Hyrule, which will shed some light on the Zonai and their culture. After he's done with this, he will give you 100 Rupees per picture, totaling 1,200 Rupees, along with the Zonai Survey Team Fabric for your Paraglider.

Overall, this quest is a great way to get insight into the lore. Whether you complete it for the rewards or because you want those extra tidbits of knowledge about the world, finding all 12 stone tablets will help you get your sky legs as you explore each Archipelago. Go forth and discover the secrets of the sky in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
