10 Early Theories For Star Wars' Next Movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu

Summary Grand Admiral Thrawn may be a key villain in the upcoming movie, posing a threat to Mandalore and the remaining Mandalorians.

Barriss Offee's return could lead to a tense reunion with Ahsoka Tano, potentially fighting on opposite sides in the conflict.

Bo-Katan Kryze's leadership of Mandalore may come at a cost, as she faces threats from Moff Gideon and a potential sacrificial act.

With The Mandalorian & Grogu now well on its way, there are many different theories as to what will happen in the upcoming Star Wars movie. Little is known about the movie, aside from the fact that it will take place after Din Djarin’s adventures with Grogu in The Mandalorian season 3. It is also slated to release on May 26th, 2026, so there is still quite a bit of time left for theorizing what the movie could be about.

Now that the remaining Mandalorians have made it back to their home planet, there are a variety of factors that remain at play. After all, just because they have made it to Mandalore does not mean that they are safe. What remains of the Empire still wishes to wipe them out, if Moff Gideon is any indication, and with Grand Admiral Thrawn on his way to the galaxy, things are only becoming more dangerous. The following theories cover what could happen in the upcoming movie, involving both the characters and the potential storyline.

10 Grand Admiral Thrawn Will Be A Featured Villain

The Ahsoka Show Set Him Up To Be A Massive Future Threat

Close

After being brought into live action in the new series Ahsoka, Grand Admiral Thrawn has found himself freed from his exile on the extra-galactic planet Peridea and set loose on the galaxy once again. Although the end of the series saw him making his way to Dathomir, it is possible that his sights could be set higher. With such a tactical mind, there has to be some way that a planet as important to the Empire as Mandalore factors into his greater plan as well.

Because of this, it is more than likely that Thrawn will be included as a villain in The Mandalorian & Grogu as well. With The Mandalorian’s heavy emphasis on the state of the Empire after the rise of the New Republic, it makes sense that the Empire’s heaviest hitter would be brought to the forefront of the story in some regard. Regardless of whether he will remain a villain specifically for the story of Ahsoka, it would be interesting to see how he would fair against the united front of the remaining Mandalorians.

9 Barriss Offee And Ahsoka Tano Will Be Reunited

The Possibility Is Even Greater With Tales Of The Empire On The Way

Close

News of a new television series has recently dropped, and with it the promise of an old character’s return. Barriss Offee will be returning in the upcoming series Tales of the Empire, a show that promises to explore her time as an Inquisitor after the fall of the Jedi. Barriss is best known for framing Ahsoka Tano for the bombing of the Jedi Temple, an action that directly led to both Ahsoka’s initial exile and her decision to leave the Jedi for good.

The tension would be especially strong if Ahsoka were fighting on behalf of the Mandalorians and Barriss were fighting on behalf of the Empire.

Now that Barriss is for sure returning in Tales of the Empire, there is more of a chance that she will make it to other Star Wars media as well. If she were to be brought to live action in the new movie, it would make for the perfect opportunity for her and Ahsoka to meet again on opposite sides. The tension would be especially strong if Ahsoka were fighting on behalf of the Mandalorians and Barriss were fighting on behalf of the Empire, further showing the rift between the two.

8 Bo-Katan Kryze Will Die Defending Mandalore

There Is A Chance That This Will Be Bo-Katan’s Final Mission

Close

Throughout her time in The Mandalorian, Bo-Katan Kryze has made it clear that she is the right person to lead Mandalore. She has already reunited clans once thought to hate each other, using the Darksaber as her guide, rallying them to take back a planet once thought uninhabitable. Now that the Darksaber is gone, Bo-Katan is the only real symbol of leadership the Mandalorians have left.

However, Bo-Katan’s incredible leadership skills also make her a target. Moff Gideon and therefore the Empire have sights set directly on her, as evidenced in their duel at the end of The Mandalorian. With such difficult odds for the Mandalorians to surmount, it would not be unreasonable to expect casualties, and with Bo-Katan's "no one left behind” sort of attitude, it is easy to imagine her giving her life to save someone else’s.

7 Grogu’s True Parents Will Be Revealed

Are Grogu and Master Yoda Truly Related?

Close

A question that has constantly been at the forefront of viewers’ minds throughout the entire run of The Mandalorian is the question of who Grogu’s birth parents really are. While there is no question that Din Djarin is Grogu’s father now, it is interesting to think about whom the little Mandalorian could be related to. After all, this species is so rarely seen in Star Wars that it doesn’t even have a name of its own.

The obvious answer would be that Grogu is related to Jedi Master Yoda, the most famous of this unnamed species. He could also be related to Jedi Master Yaddle, who is the only other member to be seen in Star Wars canon. It is possible that this could be revealed in the upcoming movie, either tying Grogu to one of these iconic Jedi or creating even more characters to fill the franchise.

6 Grogu Will Tame The Mythosaur

After His Time With The Rancor, The Mythosaur Is The Next Step

Close

One of the most iconic moments in The Book of Boba Fett occurs in episode 7, “Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor.” In this episode, Grogu approaches a raging and monstrous Rancor and manages to tame it using the power of the Force. This is an ability called "beast taming," and it has been used previously by several Jedi in order to calm and tame various animals and monsters throughout the series.

It is possible that Grogu will use this ability to tame the Mythosaur.

It is possible that Grogu will use this ability to tame the Mythosaur that currently resides in the Living Waters of Mandalore. Seen briefly by Bo-Katan Kryze while she and Din Djarin were submerged, this mythical creature is one that represents Mandalore and is often emblazoned on Mandalorian armor. If Grogu were to tame this creature, it would be an amazing asset in the fight to take the planet back.

5 Grand Admiral Thrawn And Moff Gideon Will Fight Over Mandalore

Mandalore Will Be A Battleground For More Than The Mandalorians

Close

Moff Gideon has already made it clear that he does not work well with others. When discussing plans for the future with the rest of the Imperial Shadow Council in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 7 “Chapter 23: The Spies,” he is immediately antagonistic towards the idea of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return. He is not only doubtful of what the others consider Thrawn’s inevitable return, but he also suggests looking for new leadership.

If Thrawn were to join the fight against the Mandalorians after his visit to Dathomir, it is more than likely that he will try to steamroll over Gideon’s entire operation. This could lead to the two of them fighting, separating what would have been the Empire’s united front. Not only would this weaken the Empire, but it would give the Mandalorians an easier opportunity to fight back.

4 Sabine Wren Will Meet The Other Mandalorians

The Current Generation Of Mandalorians Will Fight Under One Banner

Close

Sabine Wren is a special case for a Mandalorian, operating in a similar niche as Grogu as she blurs the line between her people and the Jedi. Not only is she a competent fighter, but she is also becoming more knowledgeable in the ways of the Force. As of right now, both Sabine Wren and Ahsoka Tano are stuck on the extra-galactic planet of Peridea.

A fight for Mandalore without all the Mandalorians would feel empty in a way. Sabine has done so much to fight for her planet as seen during her time in Star Wars Rebels that if she were to be missing from the final fight, it would almost cheapen that contribution. She should be present in The Mandalorian & Grogu in some form or another, preferably fighting alongside the rest of the Mandalorians.

3 The Mandalorians Will Create A New Darksaber

Or The Darksaber Will Inevitably Be Replaced

Close

At the end of The Mandalorian season 3, Moff Gideon destroys the Darksaber in an effort to weaken the Mandalorians’ resolve. In doing this, he not only wiped out centuries of Mandalorian history in an instant, but also removed their only way of choosing a successor should the need arise. This should have crippled them as a faction, but there is still hope for the Mandalorian people.

Should The Mandalorian & Grogu continue the Mandalorians on the path of rebuilding, there is a chance that one of them will rebuild the Darksaber. Although the weapon looked to be lost, its remains could still be found among the wreckage. If it is not found, it could eventually be replaced, perhaps by something having to do with the Mythosaur that has resurfaced, lurking in the Living Waters of Mandalore.

2 The Living Waters Will Be The Key To Mandalore’s Healing

There Is Still Much To Be Learned About The Living Waters

Close

When Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze visit the Living Waters, they are doing so in Din’s effort to be cleansed and forgiven by the Children of the Watch for taking off his helmet. Located in the Mines of Mandalore, this ancient ceremonial ground has seen little mention before the most recent Star Wars content. Because of this, little is known about the Living Waters, save for the high regard in which the Children of the Watch holds this location.

It is clear that the Living Waters will be important to the story going forward.

With the promise of so much going forward, it is clear that the Living Waters will be important to the story going forward. Though how exactly this is remains to be seen, it could help the planet of Mandalore to heal in a variety of different ways. Whether the Living Waters have some healing property that could save the planet, or the ceremonial location serves as the place where a new leader is chosen somewhere down the line, the Living Waters are sure to play a role.

1 Mandalorian Culture Will Be Forced To Change

After Hundreds Of Years Of War, It Is Time For A Mandalorian Peace

Close

If there is one thing the Mandalorians are known for, it is war. In every piece of media they have appeared in, it seems that there is a constant battle. After all, in a religion focused around battle and weaponry, it stands to reason that warfare would be something that follows their people. Many, including the Empire, see the Mandalorians and the strong front they put up as a threat to security and safety, despite the fact that oftentimes it seems the Mandalorians would much rather keep to themselves.

Now that the Darksaber has been destroyed, this also offers the opportunity for things to change. This wouldn’t be the first time that Mandalorians would try a more non-violent path, as Satine Kryze was well known for being a pacifist before her death in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Though it is difficult to imagine a Star Wars with Mandalorians that put down their weapons, their people deserve a chance at peace, which The Mandalorian & Grogu could at long last bring them.
