Fire Country Season 2 Ending Teased By Showrunner: "Things Have Come Full Circle"
Summary The Fire Country showrunner teases that the season 2 finale will serve as a "bookend" to certain elements that were introduced in the premiere.
Although the finale will feature closure, she promises that it also sets up events to come.
The season 2 finale is expected to feature fewer major twists than the season 1 finale, which could be for the best considering season 2's story thus far.
Fire Country showrunner Nia Napolitano teases what's to come from the impending season 2 finale. Created by Max Theiriot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater, Fire Country premiered on CBS in 2022 with a story that follows convict Bode (Thieriot) as he joins the Cal Fire team to help shorten his sentence. After returning for season 2 earlier this year, the drama is now in the midst of its 10-episode sophomore outing, with the finale not set to be released until next month.
In a recent interview with TVLine following the Fire Country season 3 confirmation in March, Napolitano provides a tease of what the season 2 finale has in store for viewers, despite still being three episodes away. According to the showrunner, audiences can expect some big "twists and turns," in addition to a sense of closure for certain storylines that were introduced in the premiere. Check out Napolitano's full comment below:
“We started this season with everyone in a different place, and what I really wanted was for the finale to feel like a satisfying bookend to that very unusual, noisy launch where you felt like, ‘OK, people have traveled emotionally. Relationships have changed. Things have come full circle.’ Things that were stated and done and choices that were made in the premiere… there are bookends to them, in a way that makes the season feel like one story that is of a piece and that propels us into next season.”
The Fire Country Season 2 Finale Could Be Less Of A Cliffhanger Than Season 1
But It Will Still Set Up Fire Country Season 3
Close
The Fire Country season 1 finale ended on a fairly major cliffhanger, with Bode choosing to take responsibility for the drugs that were discovered at Three Rocks. The season ends with Bode once again re-entering the prison system, but that wasn't the only twist the season 1 finale featured. Cara (Sabina Gadecki) notably reveals that she had a baby, Genevieve, not long after her breakup with Bode, and that he could be the father. All of this essentially turned the show on its head going into season 2.
Related Fire Country Already Told You What Bode Will Do After Season 2's Paternity Twist Learning the truth about Genevieve has the potential to change everything for Bode, but Fire Country season 2 already showed where his story will go.
While the season 1 finale may have been full of surprises and reversals, Napolitana's latest comment suggests that viewers are in for more resolution this time around instead of shock revelations. To that end, Theiriot recently teased that the season 2 finale will leave viewers feeling "fulfilled, excited, but also devastated." After the major Fire Country character death in season 2, episode 5, the finale appears to be doubling down on emotion and catharsis, which could make for a poignant conclusion to what has been an intense season.
Although the upcoming finale will be providing closure, since Fire Country season 3 is confirmed, the episode will surely be setting up some narrative threads to be pulled in the next batch of episodes. Season 3 is expected to go into production this summer, meaning the new episodes could premiere later this year or early next. It remains to be seen how Fire Country season 2 will wrap things up, but audiences should evidently expect some mixed emotions.
New episodes of Fire Country air on Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, with the finale scheduled for May 17.
