Kelly Marie Ellard was one of eight teenagers who were part of a group that attacked Reena Virk at a party on the night of November 14, 1997. After Reena left the party, Ellard and a boy, Warren Glowatski, followed her and attacked her further, dragged her under a bridge, and drowned her. When Reena's body was discovered, Ellard was arrested and charged with murder. Despite being only 15 at the time, Ellard was charged as an adult; after being tried three times, she was sentenced to life in prison with a possibility of parole in 2005 (via Distractify).

Actress Izzy G took on the role of Kelly Ellard in the series; she was 15 during filming, the same age Ellard was at the time the events took place. Izzy G portrays Ellard as an outwardly good girl from a middle-class family, but inside, she is a cold-hearted individual, who refuses to take any responsibility for her actions. Ellard is shown as a young girl who lacks empathy for those around her; this is further reflected during her assault on Reena at the party.

In 2018, Kelly Ellard officially changed her name to Kelly Marie Sim; she has been out on day parole since 2017.

Throughout his trial, Warren Glowatski expressed deep remorse for his actions and accepted responsibility for his part in Reena's death; he was released on full parole in 2010.

Javon Walton was cast in the role of Warren Glowatski; Walton was slightly older than Glowatski, being 17 when he joined the production.
