Summary Production for The Conners season 6 has wrapped amid news that ABC might be considering canceling the show despite its success.
The cast recently finished filming for season 6, leaving fans wondering if the finale will serve as a series closer or lead into season 7.
The Conners has the potential to continue with more storylines, but contract negotiations may determine its fate with ABC.
Production for The Conners season 6 has officially wrapped amid news that ABC may be pulling the plug on the series. Debuting in 2018, on the heels of the unexpected cancelation of the Roseanne revival, The Conners had a rocky start. Despite losing Roseanne, however, the writers transformed the sequel spinoff to be a true ensemble show that still maintains the hallmarks of its parent project. Now, however, it may be at the tail end of its impressive run.
As confirmed by Ames McNamara's post on Instagram, production for The Conners season 6 has already finished. Check out the images below:

Why Canceling The Conners Is Difficult For ABC.
The Conners Can Still Continue With Season 7

Previously, comments from people involved in the show, including Dan Conner actor John Goodman, posed the idea that The Conners season 6 may be its last. In terms of narrative, it made sense. The current year would have given the shoe enough time to properly wrap up all of its lingering storylines, including Bev's tragic dementia arc. Subsequently, however, they walk back on the idea, saying that they will continue to be on the air for as long as ABC and the fans want them. It's unclear if there was an internal change that prompted this.
For context, The Conners is ABC's number 1 comedy, which shouldn't be surprising, since the Roseanne revival was an immediate hit. This was the reason why canceling it, despite its potential was difficult for the network. In terms of narrative, ABC can keep the spinoff on the air for as long as they want to. The show doesn't have a scarcity of storylines to tell. That being said, the issue may lie in the contract negotiations — something that supposedly hasn't even started yet. This meant that The Conners went into the break without a clear verdict on its future.
Related The Conners' 100th Episode Emphasizes Its Biggest Asset (& The Reason Why It Needs Season 7) The Conners crosses a milestone with its 100th episode, which effectively argues why ABC needs to renew the Roseanne spinoff sequel for season 7.
Details about what The Conners season 6 finale is about are tightly kept under wraps. Whatever it is, it needs to be solid enough to be able to double as a series finale, in case ABC's renewal doesn't come through. Roseanne already had a botched final year and send-off. It would be disappointing if its spinoff sequel wastes the opportunity to make up for that.
The Conners season 6 airs every Wednesday, 8pm ET on ABC.
