In an interview with The Happy Hour radio show (via People), Tyler shared that he’s feeling the same confusion and hurt that others are expressing about Gerry and Theresa’s split. “Three months? They make all of my relationships seem very long…golly, I'm a dating expert compared to them!” Tyler shared that he feels Gerry and Theresa’s short marriage has “put a stain on love and Bachelor Nation” after everything appeared wholesome during the couple’s love story. “[They] brought like joy and true love that we thought and then they just pulled the rug right out from under us,” Tyler explained.

While Tyler may not have as much life experience as Gerry or Theresa, he’s explained that he has a theory about why the couple didn’t work out. “I imagine Gerry and Theresa ... don't want to change their ways,” Tyler explained. “[Gerry] doesn't want to leave Indiana where his family is and [Theresa] doesn't want to leave ... New Jersey where she wants to live," Tyler continued. "Like it's just two stubborn old people, you know, and when you get older you get more stubborn.” Tyler believes the fundamental issue between Gerry and Theresa came down to their stubborn inability to compromise.

Tyler, who appeared on The Bachelorette season 15 with lead Hannah Brown, made it to the very end of the competition before getting eliminated. While he didn’t find lasting love on the series, it’s clear he believes that it’s a process that works if you put the effort in. Tyler believes that though Gerry and Theresa were in love throughout The Golden Bachelor process, their relationship struggles proved to be too much for them to overcome, as they weren’t interested in making a concerted effort together. The couple couldn’t find a suitable compromise, so they simply chose to stop looking.
