Upcoming Christmas Movie Finally Unites Spielberg & Scorsese (But There's A Big Catch)
Summary Spielberg and Scorsese's kids are teaming up for Christmas Eve in Miller's Point, showcasing Hollywood nepotism.
Sawyer Spielberg and Francesca Scorsese are cast in main roles, but they're eager to establish their own careers.
The Spielberg/Scorsese collaboration goes beyond their kids - they are also executive producing a Cape Fear TV series remake.
Spielberg and Scorsese are set to collaborate on Christmas Eve in Miller's Point, but there's one massive catch. Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are not only two of the best directors of all time, but also share a friendship that goes beyond mutual respect for each other's work. However, the upcoming Christmas film looks set to deliver a monumental Spielberg/Scorsese team-up, only it might not quite be what audiences had in mind.
Throughout their lengthy careers in Hollywood, Spielberg and Scorsese have crossed paths a number of times. Spielberg helped Scorsese with his big break movie, Taxi Driver, and also directed one scene of Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. So in tune with what the other is doing, Spielberg and Scorsese almost made each other's movies. Now, 2024 will see a new partnership between Spielberg and Scorsese - but not in the traditional sense.

Christmas Eve In Miller's Point Stars Steven Spielberg's Son & Martin Scorsese's Daughter
The Children Of Both Directors Have Been Cast In Main Roles
Close
Christmas Eve in Miller's Point is an upcoming movie from Ham on Rye director, Tyler Taormina. The movie will tell the story of four generations of the Balsano family, who gather at their ancestral home for a final Christmas together. Joining Michael Cera and Elsie Fisher as part of the main cast is Sawyer Spielberg, son of Steven Spielberg. If that wasn't enough, Sawyer will be sharing the screen with Martin Scorsese's daughter, Francesca, who has also been cast in a main role.
Christmas Eve in Miller's Point is scheduled to premier at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May.
Sawyer, who is one of Steven Spielberg's five children, already has a handful of acting credits under his belt, including parts in two of his father's projects, The Post and Masters of the Air. In Christmas Eve in Miller's Point, he will be playing a character named Splint. Similarly, Francesca Scorsese has appeared in The Aviator, The Departed, and Hugo, as well as Broadwalk Empire, all of which her father, Martin, either directed or produced. In recent years, Francesca has become big on TikTok and many of her videos have featured Martin Scorsese himself.
Christmas Eve In Miller's Point's Casting Highlights A Hollywood Problem
Nepotism In The Movie Industry Is Very Much A Thing
Close
Sawyer Spielberg and Francesca Scorsese's joint casting in Christmas Eve in Miller's Point demonstrates that nepotism is still an issue in Hollywood. When considering the Hollywood directors' involvement in the film, it's easy to attribute the younger actors' roles in this specific film to their respective fathers. They're far from the only example of nepo babies, however. Dakota Johnson, Jack Quaid, Wyatt Russell, Zoe Kravitz, May Hawke, and Bryce Dallas-Howard, are all the children of famous parents, and they're just the tip of the iceberg.
It's likely that both Sawyer Spielberg and Francesca Scorsese will be keen to shake off their nepo baby statuses and carve careers for themselves based on their own merits, rather than through their association with their famous fathers.
It seems that movies and TV shows are populated by people directly related to those who would have already found success in the industry. While there are plenty of good examples of nepo babies, including many of the aforementioned names, the more there are, the greater the stigma is toward that title. With that in mind, it's likely that both Sawyer Spielberg and Francesca Scorsese will be keen to shake off their nepo baby statuses and carve careers for themselves. However, this task will be difficult to achieve via a movie that their fathers are collaborating on.

Steven Spielberg & Martin Scorsese Are Actually Collaborating (The Real Ones)
It's Not Just The Kids That Are Teaming Up
Sawyer and Francesca's partnership in Christmas in Miller's Point isn't the only Spielberg/Scorsese collaboration on the horizon; their fathers have another project in the works as well. A Cape Fear TV series remake is currently in the early stages of development, with both directors attached as executive producers. The series will be the third screen adaptation of John D. MacDonald's 1957 novel, The Executioners, following 1962's Cape Fear and Scorsese's own 1991 remake.
Though, as previously mentioned, the pair have worked together in small ways on multiple occasions, Cape Fear will mark the first time Spielberg and Scorsese have collaborated on a TV show. The fact that it's a remake of a Scorsese film, a film that Spielberg himself was originally set to direct, makes Cape Fear all the more exciting. Between it and Christmas Eve in Miller's Point, the former is the Scorsese/Spielberg collaboration in the best position to spark interest.
