Dragon's Dogma 2 Player Gets Duped Like A Pawn & Loses One Of The Most Valuable Items

Summary Always double-check your rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2 - you might end up with duplicates of items you don't want!

Portcrystals and Partcrystals may look similar, but they have very different purposes in the game.

Trickery from pawns can lead to frustration, but Partcrystals can still have value as rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2.

One Dragon's Dogma 2 player has regaled their tale of woe in which they were tricked by one of the game's pawns. Pawns are the Arisen's companions throughout the game and while players can customize their own, they can also hire a maximum of three others to make a party of 4, each with different vocations, strengths, and weaknesses, and can also store items for the Arisen or provide them with gifts.

DaulPirac took to Reddit to share their story about how they hired a pawn that gave out a Portcrystal as a reward for killing a Minotaur. Unfortunately, after running around looking for more Portcrystals, they found that the crystals didn't stack.

Shockingly, the pawn actually handed them a "Partcrystal" days prior, which DaulPirac also duplicated using the Sphinx's riddle while believing it was a Portcrystal, resulting in having two of the items they didn't want.

What Are The Differences Between Portcrystals And Partcrystals?

Despite Their Similar Names, The Crystals Have Very Different Uses

The first Portcrystals players encounter are permanent fixtures of cities and towns and players can fast-travel from any location on Dragon's Dogma 2's map to the location of the Portcrystals, making it easier to get back to major locations or quest givers. After completing the side quest Gift of the Bow, however, players will receive portable Portcrystals as well. These can be placed at any destination, ensuring even faster traversal, although only 10 of these can be placed on the map at once, meaning players will have to recover a Portcrystal before situating it elsewhere.

More portable Portcrystals can be bought in Battahl for 20 Wyrmslife Crystals, or as part of Dragon's Dogma 2's controversial microtransactions for $2.99.

As per the inventory's description, Partcrystals are forgeries that look extremely similar to Portcrystals, making DaulPirac's frustration at being duped - and duplicating the item - completely understandable. It's worth noting that several comments pointed out that the liquid inside it does act as an "all-healing elixir", acting as a camp rest for one character and restoring health.

According to another commenter, Partcrystals are extremely expensive to make and can serve as fairly decent rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2, so they're not completely useless like most forgeries tend to be, even if they do serve a very different purpose than the one DaulPirac wanted. Being tricked in this way isn't ideal, however, and no one would blame players for freely using the "yeet and catch" technique often on such a pawn as punishment for this deception.
