Helldivers 2 Armor Update Idea Gets The Community's Stamp Of Approval

Summary A Helldivers 2 player pitches more diverse armor sets to provide more variety in the game.

ThePengu's concept for enhanced armor abilities introduces subtle yet smart changes to existing armor sets in the game.

Arrowhead Studios may consider adding more armor perks in future updates, based on player feedback and community suggestions.

Helldivers 2 may already include dozens of unique armor sets for players to cycle through but one fan is envisioning a revamped system that would make building specific sets even more advantageous in the field. In the current version of Arrowhead Studios' live-service game, Helldivers are able to choose between a range of different helmets, body armors, and capes and while the latter cosmetic doesn't have much of a mechanic impact, the other two options can make or break a build. One fan is taking this idea even further by pitching even more robust build opportunities.

Shared to Reddit by user ThePengu, the Helldivers 2 fan shared their concept for more varied armor abilities that would result in more class diversity and players opting to fill certain roles.

The changes are subtle but smart, including tweaks to the CE-27 Ground Breaker set that grants the wear a larger grenade pouch and immunity from gas attacks, making them better suited for close encounters with Terminid nests. Another smart change is granting the CM-21 Trench Paramedic armor a perk that allows stims to last for two seconds longer, which could be essential on harder difficulties.

More Armor Perks Would Make Helldivers 2's Meta Better

Players Would Be Able to Spec Into Different Specialities

ThePengu's suggestion for improvements to Helldivers 2's armor has proven especially popular amongst the game's community as users both agree that more diversity is necessary while also offering some suggestions of their own. One of the most popular aspects of the pitch is that Medium and Heavy Armor would have more passive perks to balance out against their lack of mobility and speed. They also note that while the idea of players simply adding mods to armor would work, it doesn't necessarily line up with Arrowhead Studios' monetization model.

At the time of writing, Helldivers 2 has 44 sets of body armor and 32 different helmets.

ThePengu's concept for more robust armor perks doesn't take away from their already-established stats, such as Heavy Armor providing more protection against damage at the trade-off of less stamina, but they do prompt players to become more creative with their builds. With a wider spread of abilities, squads would need to prioritize certain roles and positions to ensure their chances of survival were as good as possible. Every Helldiver charging into a mission with the same set of armor would be punished for lacking the reflexivity needed to adapt to any situation.

Whether or not Helldivers 2 eventually adds in more armor perks remains to be seen but Arrowhead Studios has proven to be especially responsive and respectful of the community's feedback. It's entirely possible that a future update could introduce a similar system but fans will just have to see what the developers have in mind for future updates. The game is constantly getting new content in the form of monthly Warbonds that add new armor and weapons to the game, so some extra perks don't seem out of line.
