Bizarro's magic powers turn the world upside down, forcing Superman to team up with the transformed Joker for help.

Joker's unexpected heroism proves that even villains like him can do good when circumstances force them to act differently.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Action Comics #1063!Yes, the Joker of all people helped save the DC Universe from total annihilation. In his attempt to re-create his world, Superman's backward nemesis Bizarro gave the Earth an upside-down makeover. However, the Man of Steel's team-up with the Clown Prince of Crime helped bring the planet back from destructive insanity.

In Action Comics #1063 by Jason Aaron and John Timms, Superman is forced to work with the one person who has been affected positively by the Bizarro Wave, Joker, now a sane hero. Bizarro Joker guides Superman as he fights Bizarro in Clark's mind.

Unfortunately, Bizarro proves to be too much for Superman and eventually Bizarro's personality takes over Superman's body. Bizarro Joker confronts Bizarro and speaks candidly with him. It's too much for Bizarro to handle and Bizarro Joker reveals he's been talking to Superman, inspiring the hero to break free and reassume control of his body.

Bizarro Joker's Impassioned Speech Inspired Superman to Defeat Bizarro

Bizarro seriously upped his game after he gained magic powers after invading the Sorcerer's World. Frustrated by the disappearance of Bizarro World, Bizarro used his newfound magic abilities to create a powerful Bizarro Wave that turned Metropolis into a city full of Bizarros. Even Superman was affected, though he managed to push back against the powerful spell. Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse as the Wave extended beyond Metropolis' borders and turned the entire planet into a Bizarro World. With everyone else embracing Bizarro's broken mentality, Superman turned to the one sane person left: The Joker.

To be clear, the only reason the Joker assisted Superman was because the Bizarro Wave caused Joker to act how he normally wouldn't (i.e., a stable and compassionate person). But Bizarro Wave or not, Joker was the last line of defense that pulled Superman back from the brink. Had Joker not been there, Bizarro could have easily suppressed Clark's personality for good and remained in charge of the most powerful person in the DC Universe. Thankfully, Superman had the foresight to seek Harlequin of Hate out, giving Joker a chance to prove that even he could do good.

Is There a Hero in Joker After All?

The Joker should be recognized for his assistance in helping Superman defeat Bizarro. But it should also be noted that it was only because he was under the same spell that flipped everyone else's moralities and thoughts upside down. But even if it wasn't how Joker would normally act, it doesn't diminish what he did here. Joker helped Superman overcome Bizarro's control, helping Clark defeat his enemy and bring the world back to normal. Normally, the villain doesn't have a heroic bone in his body, but with a touch of magic, even someone like the Joker can be a hero.
