"Living The Dream:" Mace Windu Reveals His Unique Take On Yoda's "Size Matters Not"

As seen in The Empire Strikes Back, Luke believes that it's impossible to lift his X-Wing from the swamps of Dagobah using the Force, claiming that his ship is far too big to lift. The young Skywalker claims Yoda wants the impossible, only for the diminutive Jedi Master to lift the X-Wing himself, demonstrating a Jedi's true power. Now, Mace Windu is expanding on this idea in his new canonical comic series.

In Star Wars: Mace Windu #3 by Marc Bernardin and Georges Jeanty, the titular Jedi Knight is in the midst of a critical mission in the years before The Phantom Menace. Protecting one Azita Cruuz who possesses a rare formula for an even faster brand of hyperspace fuel, Mace finds himself facing an entire squadron of Jabba the Hutt's enforcers whom he sent to acquire the formula. As such, Mace Windu gets a dynamic opportunity to share how Jedi can achieve such incredible feats through the Force:

As such, his physical feats through the Force confirm his inner monologue which continues by revealing the dream itself, the desire a Jedi has to be a beacon of light amid the darkness and to bring peace and control to a galaxy so often in chaos. Then, the trick is to live out the dream while awake.

Confirming that the banishment of doubt is crucial, Mace Windu reveals that the Jedi dream can then be experienced with open eyes and a stronger connection to the Force itself. After all, it's been established that ridding oneself of doubt opens up so much more ability for Force users beyond what they might have previously thought was impossible. Naturally, Windu's perception and beliefs in this new issue are much like Yoda's.

A Jedi shouldn't attempt anything by simply trying, thereby leaving the possibility open for failure. Likewise, "Size matters not" is a lesson in the same vein, revealing that the limits of a Jedi's power can often be self-imposed due to a lack of trust in the Force. One could also say it stems from a lack of belief or doubt.
