Although Uncharted 2 hasn't been confirmed, Wahlberg stated in an interview with The Direct that Sony is, "Definitely looking to make another one of those." Uncharted 2 wouldn't be the actor's first sequel, but it would keep the potential alive for Wahlberg to finally be attached to a trilogy. 2022's Uncharted was a clear attempt at starting a film franchise, and the movie was very successful at the box office despite mixed reviews. However, interest in more from the Uncharted movie cast looks sufficient for the studio to strongly consider making it happen.

It would make sense for Sony to commission at least one more Uncharted movie, and then a third, if the first sequel is also a triumph.

Mark Wahlberg reprising the role of Sully in Uncharted 2 would mark only the actor's fourth sequel in his career, with none of the previous three comprising a trilogy for him. The first was 2014's Transformers: Age of Extinction, and while he starred in a 2017 follow-up in the same franchise, the Transformers movie canon was then rebooted. 2015 saw Wahlberg return to the role of John Bennett in Ted 2, but the Seth MacFarlane property changed course in 2023 and released a Ted prequel show which replaced Wahlberg with a younger actor.
