Nightwing Battles His Dark Opposite in Epic Dick Grayson Cosplay

Summary Nightwing's enemy, Red X, mirrors his skills and abilities, posing a threat to the hero's righteousness.

Pro photographer, NYCosplayer, captures the intense rivalry between Nightwing and Red X in a cosplay photoshoot.

Red X's mysterious origins make him a dangerous foe for Nightwing, with their epic battle continuing in DC Comics.

Nightwing fights his antithesis, Red X, in an incredible cosplay photoshoot. Like Batman with Prometheus and Superman with Bizzaro, the most dangerous enemies are the ones who reflect the hero they are trying to replace or destroy. Red X is a grim reminder of what Nightwing could become should he abandon the righteous path. This cosplay reminds fans of how dangerously similar the two vigilantes are.

Pro photographer, NYCosplayer, has cosplayers as Red X (Jo Jo Cruz) and Nightwing (Dr. Gerro) fighting in different locations in an Instagram post. The photoshoot consists of Nightwing poised and ready to fight with his Escrima sticks, while Red X jumps in for a sneak attack. This awesome cosplay shows how intense their rivalry has grown since the skull-faced vigilante’s debut.

The mysterious anti-hero, Red X, first appeared in the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon in the 2004 episode titled “X.” Like Harley Quinn’s cartoon popularity leading to her comic debut, Red X’s fame in the Teen Titans show led to his comic book debut in 2021, which continued the mystery of who exactly is under that skull mask.

The Mystery Surrounding The Violent Vigilante

Since his debut in the Teen Titans 2003 cartoon, Red X has been a rival and ally to Robin/Nightwing, but the origins surrounding this vigilante are very interesting. The Red X persona was first an alter ego for Robin in the cartoon, who used the new look to get closer to Slade Wilson for information. Later on, Robin encounters a second Red X who has stolen the costume to commit crimes and even teams up with the Boy Wonder. After the show’s cancelation, the second Red X’s identity was never revealed and the character’s story would cease to exist until his return in comic book form.

It was 2021’s Future State: Teen Titans #1 by Tim Sheridan and Rafa Sandoval that marked the comic debut of Red X, years after the Teen Titans cartoon. This Red X worked as a hero with the Titans, with all the same gadgets and fighting skills as the cartoon version. Later, in Teen Titans Academy #12 by Tim Sheridan and Tom Derenick, Red X unmasks for the first time to reveal himself as Nightwing’s alleged son, Brick Pettirosso. However, in a shocking twist, Brick isn’t Nightwing’s kid and is later killed by the second Red X from the cartoon. It had been a long con for the returning anti-hero Red X to again play around with his old rival, Nightwing, and take everything that matters to him.

Their Epic Battle Continues

This amazing cosplay photoshoot is very timely given the antihero Red X’s return in DC Comics. The second Red X lives for chaos and, just like his cartoon counterpart, he knows everything there is to know about Nightwing’s abilities and life. Now that Red X has gone full-on supervillain, Nightwing will have to go above and beyond to protect his Titans family. The most dangerous part about Red X is his lack of backstory and identity, which means time will tell if this vigilante will ever be unmasked. But rest assured, even though Red X may be two steps ahead, Nightwing was taught by the best to plan ten steps ahead.
